Review

** 'The mistress of the skilfully spun suspense novel' - SUNDAY TIMES ** 'Margaret Yorke knows all about human weaknesses and follies, vanities and ambitions, as well as about that rarer phenomenon, real, unadulterated evil' - SUSAN HILL ** A star in our galaxy of crime writers.' - FINANCIAL TIMES

Product Description

Something murderous is about to happen in Middle Bardolph. The sunny village seems as neat and proper as the orderly life of Mrs Newton, the grey-haired widow in an impeccably kept house. Yet a trifle more scrutiny will soon reveal a darker picture of this picture-postcard existence ...one where acts of greed and obsession are about to turn Mrs Newton's prim life upside-down. Unknown to Mrs Newton, an ex-convict and some unsavoury associates are as near as next door, her recently jilted grown daughter is going murderously mad with grief, and her middle-aged son is so desperate for his inheritance he just may try to collect it prematurely. Any of the above could endanger an elderly lady's life, but there is something more. A most sinister secret belongs to Mrs Newton herself - and the truth will come out with perhaps deadly results ...

A real page turner 21 April 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Brilliant - thoroughly enjoyed this book and have set myself the task ofreading other novels by this author. My only wish is that the book wouldhave been larger as I did not want it to finish. This is the second book Ihave read by Margaret Yorke - Intimate Kill - 5 stars without a doubt.

Criminally Brillant 6 Dec 2008
By disheveledprofessor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I picked up this book, described as a "mystery". The author, Margaret Yorke, is a pst chairman of the Crime Writers' Association. What she has written is not so much a mystery, but a psychological thriller. She is adept at showing how small flaws in the character lead to crimes. The setting is a smaller, seemingly idyllic town, Middle Bardolph, is rotten underneath with hidden secrets.

I could not put it down, but was drawn into the characters and their problems, anxious to see how connections were made. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars as I found the ending to be a let-down.

But I'm off to find more Margaret Yorke novels!
