Crimes of Passion from 1980 is a superb album of tuneful & catchy rock & pop, including dramatic ballads & uptempo heavy rock. Around this time, Pat was one of the top four female rockers along with
Ellen Foley, Debbie Harry of
Blondie and the leather-clad
Joan Jett.
Pure rock with sparkling cascades of guitar is manifested in You Better Run, the pop ballad in Never Wanna Leave You and the serious side of rock in the disturbing, tempo shifting Hell Is For Children which deals with child abuse (..."hell is for children/and you should not pay for your love/with your bones and your flesh" ...).
My favorites include the rock ballad Hit Me with your Best Shot, the vibrant & rhythmic Little Paradise which should have been a huge hit, the rollicking Prisoner of Love and her interpretation of Kate Bush's
Wuthering Heights which is quite good - who else would have dared? It's got more of a rock punch in the choruses, with whining guitars & pounding drums.
Those who like melodic rock along the lines of Blondie, Joan Jett,
The Cars and even The Knack will enjoy Crimes of Passion.
