Product Description

Meet the most unconventional investigative team of all time, in the BBC mystery adventure series, Crime Traveller.

Written by award-winning author Anthony Horowitz, creator of the brilliant Alex Rider adventures, Foyle s War, Rosemary and Thyme and Midsomer Murders, Crime Traveller stars Michael French (EastEnders, Holby City) and Red Dwarf s Chloë Annett (Casualty, Doctors) as sleuths Jeff Slade and Holly Turner.

Detective duos come and go, working on intuition, clues and good luck, but Slade and his beautiful colleague Holly are armed with something very special in the ongoing fight against crime their very own time machine. Invented by Holly s father, Professor Frederick Turner, the time machine may be a bizarre mixture of D.I.Y. technology, but it works, just, sending the charming, maverick detective Slade on a dangerous rollercoaster ride through both the present and the past. Intriguing complex puzzles are solved with the aid of their unreliable collection of nuts and bolts and flashing lights, but they must always obey the rules of quantum physics, or risk being lost forever...

Aided by a superb cast that includes Waking The Dead s Sue Johnston, and directed by Brian Farnham (Rosemary and Thyme, Poirot, Heartbeat, Bergerac) Crime Traveller is a stylish, fast-paced drama that was shown on prime time BBC television during the late 1990 s, gathering a strong and loyal cult following hooked on the mysteries of time travel and crime fighting, and paving the way for dramas such as the BBC s acclaimed series, Life On Mars.

This DVD Box Set includes an exclusive interview with writer and creator Anthony Horowitz, the man behind the newest big screen hero; Alex Rider.

DVD Special Features
Cast and Crew Biographies, Episode Synopsis, Exclusive Anthony Horowitz Interview and Original Production Trailer

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally it has been realeased!! 8 Mar 2003
Format:VHS Tape
Well after the show was first shown on bbc1 I was hooked. After a couple of repeats on UKGold it appeared that Crime Traveller would be condemmed to ever be forgotten about. Luckily this was not the case, and five years after it was first released you can finally own your own copy on video/DVD.
Chloe Annett and Micheal French are both fantastic and the script writing is great - the entire show should have another series!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Believable Science Fiction ?? 19 Sep 2003
By Paul
Crime Traveller was and still is, in my opinion, one of the best Drama based Science Fiction series. Comparisons are made to the likes of Quantum Leap and even Back to the Future but this is entirely different.
Crime Traveller fits much more comfortably in the genre of drama as the time travel experience itself receives less emphasis as the events that occur because of it. Every episode can become complex due to the various aspect your watch the show from. Often the same scene will be in an episode two or three times, each time from a different angle and as a viewer you know more of the story until it all falls together at the end - captivating!
This box set is a must buy to own every episode as a second series was sadly never commissioned.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one the BBC let get away.... 31 Jan 2005
Crime Traveller. Hard to believe that its not been shown since 1997. It a tribute to how good a programme it was that i remeber it seven years on. And now i have the DVD the entirety of why i enjoyed it so much comes flooding back.
Essentially the story focuses on a detective - Jeff Slade and Holly Turner, the police stations science officer. Holly, buildng on the work of her father has developed a time machine which allows her and Slade to travel back (a limited amount of time mind you) to view a crime as it happens and allow them an advantage on solving it.
The character themselves are great fun. By the second episode or so you get a real sense of mutual respect and trust between the two main characters. The smaller characters are of no real consequence but for comic relief they are tip top form.
The logic of time travel the show built up was actually quite clever in places. And you may have to watch an episode more than once to actually appreciate what going on. Temporal scisms or loop of causality - you name it this has got it. But it never takes a step into technobabble which is a plus. The writer sticks to the rules and it pays off. And the time machine itself is although a bit clumsy looking is great fun to watch at work. Jeff Slade when he first goes with Holly back in time asks her 'have you just photocopied us?', which is quite apt when you watch the time machine working.
As a plus there is an interview with the writer who reveal quite a few details you may want to know about Crime Traveller. Why there was never another series made (thanks to the BBC controller); he also cruelly states that there were talks with US companies to purchase the Crime Traveller format that never came to fruition. But why hasnt any authors decided to continue the adventures in a novel format?

5.0 out of 5 stars inteligent british science fiction 28 Dec 2010
Format:VHS Tape|Verified Purchase
Cop Jeff Slade (Michael French) is about to be in big trouble after blowing an undercover job. But he is saved by police science officer Holly Turner (Chloe Annett) who uses the time machine created by her late father to unearth vital evidence that helps Slade. Once Slade has worked out what has happened he realises the potential in popping back in time to solve baffling crimes. This is the basis for this series. And yes it is far fetched. But once you get past that you get some very clever stories that use the usual time travel problems. He has to be back within a set time.
And he must not be seen by himself, etc, but there are a lot of twists and turns and some good humour.
An excellent use of the science fiction genre. But sadly the BBC axed the series after only a few episodes. A small crumb for science fiction fans to keep them happy and then they went on to give us over a decade of un funny comedians, endless cookery programmes, hours of sport, mindless reality shows and politically correct rubbish whilst telling us what "we like".
This is a first class, British Science Fiction based series.

I thoroughly enjoyed Crime Traveller.

If you like tv shows or films concerning time travel (such as the Back to the Future trilogy) then you should like this. It is a detective show with two main characters Holly Turner and Jeff Slade who travel back in time to solve crimes whilst trying to avoid running into their "other selves". There are three other main supporting characters who make up the police department and feature in each episode.

The only drawback of Crime Traveller is that by half way through the series you can probably predict the storylines and the outcome early into each episode, however it is still enjoyable to watch.

The complete series boxset contains all 8 episodes that were made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crime Traveller 6 Jun 2005
By A Customer
If like Doctor Who, H.G.Wells or anything about time travel and the laws of time your going to love this. Its a fast paced action detective show with a twist. Its brilliantly acted by Michael French and Chloe Annett and the rest of its strong supporting cast. I think its such a shame the BBC did'nt know it was on to such a good thing, and ended the show after just eight episodes. Thank good we have the new series of Doctor Who.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handling time travel paradoxes very clever!
Great series about time-travel. What I love the most is that they tried to have less time travel paradoxes than there usually are in that kind of stories. Read more
