5.0 out of 5 stars want to know about cricket?, 31 Aug 2001
By missfoxypants@aol.com (hertfordshire.) - See all my reviews
one of the most well known sayings about any sport is "you must understand it to enjoy it" and if any one sport falls under this catergory it is cricket. you could stare at a tv screen for five days trying to take in a test match and still not have any idea what "spin" or "popping crease" or "lbw" meant. this little book is packed full with all the essential fundamentals of cricket, it has lots of easy to disect diagrams to break up the sometimes confusing jargon, which it would be to new fans. cricket is a game to be loved and respected and this book will give you oodles of help on the way there. this is a fantastic addition to the know the game range.

2.0 out of 5 stars The MCC Rule Book in Another Gise, 14 Nov 2007
By J. Noon (Surrey, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
These comments apply to the latest edition (4th) at the time of writing -Nov 2007. I must state that I know very little about cricket and bought this book with a view to helping my wife, who is European, better understand the game.

It appears to be little more than the MCC 'The Laws of Cricket' and is hardly a book you would give to a someone who knows little about the game but would like to know more: it, like 'The Laws of Cricket', is dry and technical. Schoolboys would do better by looking at the Cricket section in 'The Really Dangerous Book for Boys'. If you want to buy a book for a schoolboy look at 'What is a Googly?' by Rob Eastaway: it really is informative and it's an amusing read.

I castigate the writers for what they have done with this book.

This aside, if you are willing to pay £4-99 for 'The 'Laws of Cricket', this is probably the book for you.
