Manufacturer's Description

From the Le Creuset Accessories range comes this stylish enamelled steel stove top whistling kettle which is suitable for use on all heat sources including ceramic and induction hobs. The heavyweight metal conducts heat evenly across the bottom and up the sides of the kettle, quickly heating the water.

Le Creuset kettles are available in two innovative designs and a range of colours offering a charming touch to any stove top. Our unique, locking handles and phenolic knobs make lifting, pouring and cleaning easy.

Le Creuset

Traditionally known for cast iron, Le Creuset have taken their knowledge and expertise to develop a range of kettles with the same quality in mind, thus providing a strong and durable product that performs well and looks great.

Adaptability

Ceramic, halogen or induction hobs, gas, electric, solid fuel or Aga/Rayburn Le Creuset kettles will work excellently on all. Le Creuset cookware is available in a wide range of styles and colours that will suit both your kitchen and dining table.

Care and Use

Before first use: remove all labels and protective packaging. Ensure kettle handle is locked into the upright position. Once in position do not try to unlock. Also, wash kettle in hot water, then fill with clean water and bring to the boil and discard this water.

As with all metal surfaces in contact with high temperatures, please take caution when handling Le Creuset Kettles heated on the stove. Le Creuset proudly uses high heat resistant plastic on our handles and whistles; however, we encourage you to use a Le Creuset oven mitt to remove whistle before pouring.

How to use

Never heat up an empty kettle or fill beyond level marked on the outside of the kettle.

Match kettle base to size of ring/burner.

Do not tip kettle upside down when pouring as water may spill from the lid.

Do not leave kettle simmering for long periods on any heat source - it may boil dry which will damage the base enamel.

Remove whistle carefully with a cloth before pouring - caution, whistle may be hot.

Avoid leaving water in kettle when not in use, as a build up of scale may occur and reduce efficiency.

Do not bang the kettle down onto any hob or work surface. Repeated knocks may damage the enamel.

A gentle de-scaler may be used periodically, if required.

Use on Aga/Rayburn Stoves:

Do not heat kettle on simmering plate - always use fast plate.

If plate has been open, close the plate to allow the plate to recover heat before heating the kettle.

About Le Creuset

A lifetime spent crafting the finest cookware. Le Creuset has been making superb, award winning cookware since 1925 and the secret recipe of ingredients remains the same today. Each piece is made from a unique mould into which molten iron is poured from a large cauldron (called a creuset). This creates a unique piece, each with it’s own identity and style. The piece is then hand finished and subjected to strict quality checks. Finally the cast iron is enamelled at extremely high temperatures to create the vibrant lustre and hard finish which looks great in the home.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Kettle In Crisis, 10 Oct 2009
By Stewart Murray McRorie "Willoughby" (La Bussiere Sur Ouche, Cote d'Or France) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
For kettle connoisseurs the Kone sets a visual standard few can emulate. This is my second - the first was not a success. The wretched whistle made an effeminate squeal indicating at some time in the future boiling might occur. Also at 1.6 litres this volume is barley enough. But who buys a non-electric kettle to boil water? Most of us are now multi kettle households, for me the Russell Hobbs Black Glass 1.7 Litre Cordless 3KW kettle is the perfect companion to the Kone. The extra capacity makes a difference.

The Kone whistle - as reviewers have noted - is inadequate. They have now introduced a new flip top (as in the pictures). But it is easy to overfill which then reduces the steam generated and diminishes the volume. Without delay the designers at Le Creuset need to develop a visible water level indicator - the problem being most people fill via the spout with typically too much or too little water. A Perspex window and floating ball could be added but this would konepromise the elegance of the design. An alternative would be a sensor linked to a LED or noise-emitting device to tell when the maximum (or minimum, as you prefer) water level had been reached.

But this is a Le Creuset! So I'd ask for a two part weight-based sensor that could be externally mounted. On the Kone handle, a solar battery, the weight sensor would indicate when 1.6 litres is achieved. This could also prove a key safety feature preventing under filling which is a serious danger (especially when there are people with Alzheimer's or senile dementia around). Until then, I have reverted to a jug, measuring out 1.65 litres of distilled water (to allow for spillage), open the lid and pour in the water but that's not a solution anyone would find acceptable other than in the short term.

On the positive side the kettle offers sublime enamel colours. Paint technology - complex and expensive - has evolved at a staggering pace. Selecting a "shade" is such an exhilarating experience. The vibrant colours achieved by Le Creuset deserve admiration. To call my kettle "graded blue" is ridiculous, it is a plutonium azure rarely seen without the benefit a late afternoon Mediterranean sun. My almond kettle exudes the warmth of a bovine blessed Devon meadow, like the rich buttermilk before tormented by pasteurisation.

The Kone also has to face up to its treacherous spurting spout problem, pouring can result in splashes of boiling water. At the filling point only 1/3 of the kettle is full. The rest of the metal "above the water line" heats at a higher temperature. This casuses a differential, the "dry" metal being hotter than the water. Further the spout extends too far, 4.3 cm wider than the base so it is critical the heat source be smaller, overlapping (easy with a gas ring) will generate extra spout heating. When the water exits from the spout the over heated dry metal results in aggressive splashing. This could be solved by putting a ceramic tube -or similar - koneductive material - from the spout into the water. But you have to ask how did Le Creuset miss a double fault?

The research and development, the design and the fabrication teams at Le Creuset must project manage i) the filling issue, ii) upgrade the capacity to 1.75 litres and iii) re engineering the whistle and iv) deal with the spurting spout. They should also produce whistles with different tones. Sound, like colour, is a personal preference that when buying at the higher end a choice should be offered. The Kone is a serious problem for Le Creuset; it will require considerable investment. Until then this is a kettle in crisis.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chocolate teapot, 7 May 2008
By Mrs. R. M. Griffiths (Liverpool, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Gorgeous kettle but a real 'chocolate teapot' I am sad to say. 4 weeks old, the whistle has given up. When it has just boiled, pouring the kettle is hazardous and messy with boiling water sprayed everywhere. The handle holds the heat so that it can only be lifted using a cloth. Total waste of money unless you only wanted it to grow plants in. Rubbish. I can get a cheaper much more reliable kettle from another manufacturer and now I will have to do just that.

1.0 out of 5 stars A real lemon, 2 Jan 2009
By Mrs. S. M. Littlewood "Creative cook" (Haywards Heath, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a a beautiful kettle which sadly does not work. Obviously the design was put into production without being tested. We are sending back kettle number 2. Both kettles ceased to whistle after a very short time. The ring around the top of the kettle where the lid sits allows steam through thereby scalding the hand which is holding the handle. Effectively the designers did not think about the pressure that builds up as it boils. A most disappointing product from what used to be a manufacturer of top quality goods
