The size and shape of this wok are perfect., 31 May 2003
Many woks are too small and have sides which curve too steeply, the wide and shallow curve of this one is not only aesthetically pleasing but functional. It makes it easier to toss the ingredients around when stir frying without your meal ending up on the stove top, and you can put food up around the sides, out of the oil, without it tumbling back down when you are adding the next item. It is satisfyingly heavy and very stable due to the flat base, so you can use it on any size and type of burner. The double handles not only give the wok a stylish oriental look, they make it much easier to lift, tilt and manoeuvre than one long handle would, and easier to get in the oven should you need to. The glass lid is a great improvement inasmuch as it lets you keep an eye on the food without letting heat and steam escape, but it will cost a bomb to replace if you drop it. The wok itself on the other hand seems likely to outlive me and maybe another generation or two besides, unlike the succession of other woks I have had which have gone the way of the wheely bin. The design, quality and apparent durability (time will tell) make this wok a good investment, but it's value could be improved in a couple of ways. Firstly, I think at the price Le Creuset should include the semi-circular wire shelf which most woks come with. Secondly, buy one or two cookery books which focus on woks to encourage you to use it more often. There are precious few recipes in the booklet which is included. Still, it's the best wok I've ever come across.

Le Creuset enamelled 36 cm CAST IRON WOK, 10 Mar 2008
with side handles and a glass lid.
Sturdy, functional design and attractive enough to take to the table!
Large flat base, for maximum and even heat distribution, making it easy to move ingredients around and possibly store some against the rounded sides, for e.g. meat to prevent overcooking.
Stir-frying/braising/steaming/poaching on any heat source, including induction.
Recipe leaflet included - although limited this does give you a start if new to this version of healthy cooking!
The classic rounded interior is ideal for stir frying and my favourite recipe using my Wok is a handed-down version of a `Prawn and Vegetable Stir Fry', but there is a useful section entitled:-
`Woks and Moroccan Tagines'
in the book:-
`The Cast Iron Way to Cook', by Sue Cutts,
one of Le Creuset's consultants, which gives a guide to the use of the Le Creuset Wok, as well as some delicious recipes, including :-
`Peppered Pork Stir-Fry'
and
`Braised Orange Duck'
Available in a variety of colours, at Amazon, today, some at great prices!
