Product Description

Product Description

Palau SAF (Short Adjustable Fin) are very special fins, designed for swimming and snorkelling, but above all for all those who practise water sports and that only need the fins in particular situations. For example for those who practise all kinds of surfing and windsurfing, rafting, canoeing etc. and also for those who practise their favourite sports offshore. Palau SAF has a very soft, short blade and a foot pocket that allows it to be put on in seconds, even when in the water. What is more, the foot pocket has been designed to accommodate at least 3-4 consecutive sizes and allow the fin to be worn over thin footwear. The strap has a strong ring on the upper part to allow reversal of the strap itself or to fix the fins to the body or the equipment. Palau SAF is available in 4 sizes that cover shoe sizes from 35 to 47.

Very easy to adjust fit and to get on and off. Suitable length for snorkelling in Egypt, no need for great long things!

I had searched for ages for the perfect fins for shallow coral reefs that were also light and easy to transport in a rucksack without adding to overall weight. these have been perfect - they are small enough to carry easily and fit inside smaller rucksacks yet do provide substantially more propulsion than standard fins. Of course they are not as powerful - you will not dive as deep or as fast with these compared to regular fins but they are more than adequate and certainly better than bare feet alone, and they ache less with extended use because they are less powerful. We bought these specifically because we often go to very shallow coral reefs (depth of less than 1m at low tide!) and need something that will not touch the coral at all and usual fins are far too cumbersome. Additionally when there is strong current these provide enough power to safely escape without too much effort

So, these fins are extra short being just 43cm/17in in length and 20cm/8in at their widest, which admittedly makes for easy transport, however, they are so short that there is no flex and so there is no 'drive'. Imagine trying to fin with two short pieces of wood strapped to your feet. I was quite surprised just how little effect they had in pushing me forward using straight leg finning but they were however pretty good using the frog style. One fin also seemed to always work its way loose due to the temperamental heel bindings, they are the same bindings you get on most masks which work well when there is less stress put upon them. They were comfortable though, the foot well is very soft, I used them with 3mm neoprene socks and they felt very nice but they are soft enough for bare foot use. Also because the fins are quite wide they sometimes caught on each other when using straight leg finning. Overall I'd say they aren't worth the money, better to buy slightly longer fins with a bit of flex to give good propulsion even if they take up more room in a day pack. You can't beat fins with a closed foot pocket that fits your foot perfectly (unless you're using boots of course). I definitely wouldn't want to rely on these fins to fin against even a modest tidal swell or for long distance use...they simply don't have the power.
Update: I gave them a second chance and used them yesterday....these fins are downright dangerous for serious snorkelling (and you wouldn't use them for diving anyway)...there is absolutely no drive from them...sometimes you need to kick on when snorkelling to get yourself out of danger or to swim against a tide..sorry Cressi, these fins are a liability. They're probably good for body boarding but if you are a seasoned snorkeller..stay clear of these.

I purchased these to replace my trusty Zip Fins which split, to use for pool training and I have not been disappointed. They are quite short, rigid fins which flex at the ankle where there is an adjustable strap. You can get quite a powerful kick because of this, although the foot pocket was quite narrow and not quite as soft as I was expecting. The manufacturers state that they are designed to be used with fin socks and I would suggest that you go a size larger if you intend to use them.

All in all a good fin at a competitive price

I bought these fins to carry them with my hand baggage during my vacation. They are really great for the size and the price is good too. They are quite rigid so you need a little training to use them well.

I would only use these for snorkeling as they're very short and stiff.

However, they are made to a high standard and I am happy with my purchase.

Bought for family fun at the beach and was used by all of us young and old. Gave good propulsion with minimum fatigue, nice compact size so perfect for travelling.

I bought these short fins because with airline weight allowances being ridiculous these days and getting worse my full size fins are to heavy. These fit in my hand baggage and whilst not as powerful as them they are perfectly good enough to snorkel with. All my kit is Cressi and these are definitely up to normal quality.10/10.
