Book Description

1 Jun 2008
One of today's hippest craft trends is amigurumi, Japanese-inspired crochet and knit stuffed dolls that have inspired crafters everywhere to create gaggles of adorable creatures. Most patterns are for little kitties, bears, bunnies, and the like, but here's an offering for those who prefer their cute a little less saccharine. Author Christen Haden combines the infamous cuteness of Japanese crafts with characters more associated with horror flicks, bad action, and sci-fi films. Patterns include zombies, ninjas, Vikings, vampires, aliens, and skeletons, to name just a few. Each of the 30+ patterns is accentuated with hilarious commentary, step-by-step instructions, and photographs of the creatures in their natural environment, so even beginners will be inspired to share in the fun.

Review

This book is chock-full of the cutest little stuffed creatures, ranging in difficulty from 'beginner' to 'epic.' (Really. Epic.) Most of the patterns start with the same base- a basic head and a basic body, with each stuffie sporting it s own unique permutation. --Crafts Epic, October, 2011

..combies the infamous cutness of Japanese crafts with characters more associated with horror flicks, bad action, sci-fi movies. Patterns include zombies, aliens, ninjas, vampires, Vikings to name just a few…' --Zombie Times, October, 2011

This book is a funky fun amigurumi crochet pattern book for people who love nerdy creatures like zombies and robots. It s got good instructions and a lot of detail to the patterns so if you ve never done amigurumi before you don t need to be intimidated. The style of the book is child-inspired so if you re looking for a book that feels serious then this isn t the one for you! --Crochet Craft, October, 2011

4.0 out of 5 stars Who knew zombies could be cute?!?! 3 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
I received this book as a present and was sooo pleased with it (thanks Helen). However, as someone with absolutely no knowledge of crochet am struggling a bit (maybe Im just a bit of a thicky).
It is a very lovely book, and I will be making everything in it - just need to get to grips with the basics of crochet and I will be well away!

2.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessarily complicated 1 Sep 2010
Format:Hardcover
The designer has made the patterns unnecessarily complicated, The same effect could have been achieved with more simpler increasing and decreasing patterns. While the wee figures are great - buy another book not this one. Once you've some practice you can probably create similar characters yourself anyway. I am very experienced at crochet and struggled to understand the directions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scarily cute stuff 18 Nov 2008
Format:Hardcover
This book is brilliant! The patterns are very quick to make up and I've found them especially useful for using up those almost-finished bits of wool that I've got lying around from other projects.

I especially like the Knight pattern, complete with mini crochet helmet and shield, that I made as a gift (perfect for the newly single- why wait for a knight in shining armour when you can crochet one?!).

I also like the way the book is small and hardback- this makes it easy to carry in a bag for crochet on the move.

Only drawback is I want to make so many of these I may get overrun by a mini army of skeletons, zombies and spartan warriors. Also I agree with the first reviewer- don't get this as your very first crochet book, you'll need to know the basic stitches to complete the patterns.

Its a nicely presented book but I think the best designs are on the front cover, those inside are a little ummmm unappealing.
