Product Description

Product Description

One of today's hippest craft trends is amigurumi, Japanese-inspired crochet and knit stuffed dolls that have inspired crafters everywhere to create gaggles of adorable creatures. Most patterns are for little kitties, bears, bunnies, and the like, but here's an offering for those who prefer their cute a little less saccharine. Author Christen Haden combines the infamous cuteness of Japanese crafts with characters more associated with horror flicks, bad action, and sci-fi films. Patterns include zombies, ninjas, Vikings, vampires, aliens, and skeletons, to name just a few. Each of the 30+ patterns is accentuated with hilarious commentary, step-by-step instructions, and photographs of the creatures in their natural environment, so even beginners will be inspired to share in the fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars The title is half right, 2 Jun 2008
By Jen (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
Actually, it cute all the way. If you like amigurumi and are looking for a book full of quick gratification projects this is great. It's full of sweet little guys to make and I'd knocked out a couple within a few days of buying this. I would say that although the patterns are mostly pretty simple it's probably for people who already know the basics of crochet. The couple of patterns I've worked up also didn't work out exactly right for me, but that's not really a problem as crochet is a very forgiving craft, and the patterns are so quick and small that if you do make a mistake it's just a few minutes to undo and correct it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scarily cute stuff, 18 Nov 2008

This book is brilliant! The patterns are very quick to make up and I've found them especially useful for using up those almost-finished bits of wool that I've got lying around from other projects.

I especially like the Knight pattern, complete with mini crochet helmet and shield, that I made as a gift (perfect for the newly single- why wait for a knight in shining armour when you can crochet one?!).

I also like the way the book is small and hardback- this makes it easy to carry in a bag for crochet on the move.

Only drawback is I want to make so many of these I may get overrun by a mini army of skeletons, zombies and spartan warriors. Also I agree with the first reviewer- don't get this as your very first crochet book, you'll need to know the basic stitches to complete the patterns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Creepy Cute, 28 Feb 2009
By Claire (Colchester, England) - See all my reviews
I bought this book after seeing photos of some of the dolls on facebook and I wasn't disappointed! I am fairly new to crochet, the ninja doll was only my 4th project. I have also made the devil as well, so far. I think this book is excellent. Yes, you do need to know the basic stiches and how to increas/decrease, but these are explained briefly as well. There are diagrams as well as written instructions, and a description of how to put the dolls together. You can also use the basic head and body patterns to make an infinite number of other dolls - I have so many ideas I don't know where to start! There are also instructions for making all the peripheral items such as a scythe for the grim reaper doll and various types of eyes. The book is really well written and I have found it very easy to follow.
