Book Description

The Creature from Reelfoot Lake: The Merman Who Loved Women is a literary horror novel that it is reminiscent of the classic cinemas of the 1950s. But with one major difference: The Reelfoot creature is half-human, a merman who has been on an obsessive search for his birth mother that has lasted more than 200 years.

At the heart of the story are three former college roommates—two male, one female—who all have childhood and relationship issues that dominate their lives. The roommates converge at Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee, where the creature is inflicting a reign of terror that makes it difficult for them to locate a treasure that has been buried since the New Madrid earthquake of 1811.

The plot is complicated by the fact that the female roommate is being stalked by her ex-husband at the same time that she is stalked by the creature. It is a sophisticated, multi-layered psychological thriller in which all the main characters are forced to deal with their individual issues. The creature cannot speak, but he has a distinctive voice that will touch the hearts of readers as he searches for the meaning of his tormented life.

The reason have this rating is that it is long on sex and very short on monster. I didn't need to read about male body parts and sex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic horror 5 Aug. 2012
By Nurse Maria - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow! Reading this book takes me back to the old movie classics like Creature from the Black Lagoon. I read this on a friend's Kindle, one of the "free" books offered, but I guess the non-free books are of equal value. I especially like the author's decision to blend relationship horrors in with creature horrors. Very effective in the way it keeps you in suspense. Also very well written. Look out, Stephen King, there is a new sheriff in town.
