Product Description

Lost and alone in the murky backwoods of Louisiana, a small group of friends find themselves being hunted by a monster of unspeakable horror and malevolence. Lurking beneath the depths of the swamp in which they have become ensnared, lies the Creature. Hiding beneath the shallows, it waits. Legend tells of an abomination, a creature that is half man, half alligator. A creature that feeds off human flesh, butchering its victims whilst they still breathe. As they venture further into its fetid lair, they must pray that the legend isn t true. Shocking and unrelentingly brutal, this blood drenched journey into hell also stars horror legend Sid Haig (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses).

3.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Time In The Woods 17 Aug 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
The film begins with a naked woman taking a dip, getting attacked, losing her legs and dying. We don't see by what. Then it's 6 young people on a trip to the woods. They stop at a grocery shop and learn of the local legend.
This is entertaining enough if you like creature-features but it's nothing special. I thought it was a well written story with mystery held for the first half of the film. There's even a couple of minor jump scares. In the second half of the film there are lots of surprises in the reveals. We see a little amount of blood splashing, several scenes of a sexual nature (one being rather funny) and while there's a lot of violence we don't see it in graphic detail. Overall it's a decent ok type of low budget horror film.
One of the things that actually annoyed me in this was in the plot and concerned one of the 6. It was the first major twist and I've seen it in quite a few films over the years. Can't reveal as it's a major plot point.
That's just bye the way. The fact that Sid Haig is in the movie seals it for me. I just loved the one scene of his where he's nice and friendly with 100% menace at the same time. Awesome.
Extras include 22 minutes of featurettes. USA Release Region 1.

2.0 out of 5 stars A grave disappointment 7 Sep 2012
Format:DVD
Purchased this one based on the 5 star review. Had been eyeing it up before it was even released, interested by the "Feast" like cover, the look of the creature and the presence of Sid Haig.

However its a film which fails on all levels. The plot is poor, the acting average, the creature disappoints and its just not scary.

Sid haig plays the same role he played in the House of 1000 Corpse, namely there just to point the usual group of teens in the direction of the creature.

At least in House he had something more to do as Spalding.

The end is ridiculas, to the extent (spoiler?) that the final battle in which the creature is defeated does not even occur on screen.

The little twist at the end is the only highlight but to be truthful if I had been a little bit interested by then I would have probably seen it coming.

A grave disappointment. If you still want to see it, wait until it comes down in price to about £3, or get it second hand or rent/borrow it.

Or better still buy Feast. A much better film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and Blood-Drenched Frolics 16 Oct 2012
Format:DVD
Some of the other reviews I've read about 'Creature' are a bit harsh for me, so I thought I'd balance things up a little.

The first thing to say is 'Creature' is meant to be 'a bit silly' (I'm sure the extras in which the cast and crew talk deeply about the multi-layered storyline etc must themselves have been very tongue in cheek.....surely!)

Sid Haig is his usual funny and brilliant self although does not feature a lot - the rest of the acting is a little suspect, but this just adds to it's intentional B Movie charm for me.

The good thing about 'Creature' is that is does have a story..and a fairly unique one at that after what is a very architypal first 20 minutes (young folk get lost, run down petrol station, local legend etc - very 'House of a Thousand Corpses'). Thereafter it does take on a storyline of its own and at least the whole thing is contextualised fairly well.

This will remind you of a good old 80's horror flick - lots of blood, gratuitous nudity (it doesn't get any more gratuitous than flashing yourself at an elderly petrol station worker, but one of the gals duly obliges)and a freakish rubbery monster.

Yes it's as daft as a brush, yes the ending is cheesy and yes the acing is rather wooden; but believe me if you stick your tongue in your cheek and just allow yourself to entertained for 90 minutes or so, I'm sure many a horror fan will share my view. If you take it too seriously, you'll be bitterly let down, so just don't would be my advice!

All in all 'Creature' is a strong little horror film that doesn't pretend to be anything other than a bit of blood soaked fun! Bravo!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dont waste your time 4 Sep 2012
Format:DVD
This is absolute rubbish,a true waste of 89 minutes. It does not work on any level, comedy, horror or thriller & any combination of all three.
Bog standard plot, first we see a woman attacked while swimming by a large crocodile,it's a poor mans "JAWS" but not even that good. Then we join a bunch of teens who are taking a holiday together, they stop at a road side shop & learn of a legend of some sort of creature living in the woods.Guess what they do next, YES!! they head off to the old shack to satisfy thier curiosity. There is the full story of the legend as they drive to the spot, but i wont go into that.

The rest of the film follows an all too familiar formula, sex, lesbian sex, stalking by monster hiding in various places, some gore & some very bad acting.I enjoy a good B-movie & even some of those slasher or monster films from the 70's or 80's that are quite funny even if it is for the wrong reason. If this was meant to be a nod in that direction it fails in every way,not even the man in the rubber suit raised a smile,at least it wasn't bad CGI that would've been even worse.Dreadful from start to finish,as i say in the title,PLEASE! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!!
