First I only saw the movie because of the paticipation of Mariel Hemingway and Virginia Madsen. But finally the movie turned out to be a highly entertaining comedy with a serious background.
It deals with a biologist (O'Toole) who tries to re-create his dead wife. Over his work he nearly forgets his own life itself and realizes almost too late that his assistant (Hemingway) has fallen in love with him.
Peter O'Toole and Mariel Hemingway are great. Also Virginia Madsen and Vincent Spano do a fine job in an additional love story. The movie has all you might be looking for: humour, tragedy and very good acting.
I wish there would be more DVD releases with movies starring Mariel Hemmingway.

When Monty Python released their masterpiece "The meaning of life" in 1983, I thought I just saw the final chapter on the matter. I made a mistake. Two years later, Dr. Creator came out on the screen and made me change my opinion. A wonderfully struggled Peter O'Toole in one of his best performances ever, a ethereal Mariel Hemingway permeated by her uncle's dreams, a young Vincent Spano and a beautiful Virginia Madsen to pack up the gift. Dealing with life and death from a genetic scientist's point of view, Peter O'Toole discovers in the end (same as Steve Jobs stated in his speech to Stanford's students in 2005) that death is the best invention life ever created. Can't remember the final words by O'Toole exactly but their sound was something like: "When science will ascend the peak summit, it will discover that religion had been sitting there since ages.". Movie definitely underrated, deserves atleast 9/10.

One of the most simple but touching movie ever shot. Peter O'Toole at his best, with an extremely warm acting. The soundtrack is, like the movie itself, unforgettable.
