Review

These books are ideal resources for busy teachers who want to create an engaging, colourful atmosphere that is conducive to learning in just a few lessons. Using basic materials, simple techniques and a cross-curricular approach, teachers will love to put these ideas into practice, or will at the very least be inspired just through flicking the pages, to create their own educationally stimulating and interactive environment. --Martine Horvath, EYE Volume 9 No 12, April 2008

The Belair range of books on classroom display will be familiar to many teachers in primary schools. Divided into sections on fiction and non-fiction, the book explores a series of topics, with ideas for literacy work, display, and supplementary activities from Maths to Dance, Science to PSHE. [Teachers] will find a wealth of ideas for adding colour and practical creativity to the study of texts in their classrooms. --Darren Coult, Write Away, April 2008

These books are a valuable resource for active teachers, providing experienced and new teachers fresh and original ideas. The majority of the contents are written to complement the revised literacy outline and includes speaking and listening, and reading and writing activities. It is a valuable resource for literacy coordinators aiming to improve creativity and cross-curricular planning although class teachers would surely benefit for some extra help. --Yasmin Galea, TES, March 2008

...Like many other schools, we are aiming towards a more exciting curriculum in which we link subjects together using themes. This book is ideal for this approach as it takes a book or several books and then shows you how to link other areas of the curriculum together. Being a KS1 teacher I was excited to find Where the Wild Things Are featured, as it is one of my favourites. The book gave me further ideas about how I can use this story in maths, art and science lessons. I also loved the non-fiction section on 'Exploring Colour and Shape', which draws on the artwork from Gustav Klimt and Kandinsky, together with the music of Saint Saens, and links them with Literacy, Maths and PE. --Melani Tavenner, Teach Primary!, September 2008

There are some good ideas in this book but seems a little dated due to the move towards creative curiculum and working walls.
