5.0 out of 5 stars wireless apt-X CD quality, impressive! 5 Aug 2011

Having owned other wired 2.1 speaker systems including Creative's the relatively high price of this product held me back until my son's 21st B'day gave me a reason to purchase and try it out.
My son is delighted as it has clearer and fuller range from the satellites and the new sub-woofer/bass unit is a lot more powerful without distortion than his previous Creative wired 2.1 set which is around 6 years old.
He has not tried out the pseudo surround-sound effect possible by re-directing the top satellite driver as we have other dedicated, full surround sound systems for watching films and playing X-Box games on (he does not play games on his computer).

From my perspective, the bass is in another league alright - feeds right through his bedroom floor to the room below. Which he clearly delights in doing more of once, I'd informed him. Fortunately he will be returning to Uni soon.
The sound would not be comparable to my Naim HiFi nor a dedicated, budget HiFi system of course.
However, with careful placement of the bass and the satellites and adjustment of the bass volume the stereo sound integration is much better then I'd expect. The bass is far better then would be available from budget-level HiFi systems although the best of the later presents a more coherent stereo imagery.
What I am impressed by is apt-X actually delivering CD quality sound, wirelessly via Bluetooth. Of course, you can argue that this will be available if you have a decent quality wired connection. But if the source is a mobile device such as a laptop rather than desktop computer, the wireless freedom restores the intended function of mobility to that device. This is a huge effect and benefit only apparent in real-world usage.
{note that the satellites remain wired to the bass unit - it's only the connection between the speaker system and the source which can be wireless}.
You can also attach a standard wired device which does not have bluetooth, but which all mobiles and a few MP3 players have as well.
It is possible to have sufficiently high quality MP3 material where you can tell the difference in sound between standard Bluetooth and apt-X codex Bluetooth connections. But it's only really with the uncompressed CD material where the apt-X codex truly makes the difference clear.

    Impressive.

Next is to check out if Apple's newest Macbook Air has apt-X included in its OS X ~ no need to buy a rather pricey £40 Creative USB transmitter :-)

On taking out of the box my first impression that the speakers were smaller than they looked in the pictures. The setup was very straightforward and within 10 mins I had it working. The subwoofer unit has all the trickery built into it. Connect the desktop volume control (great weighted control that feels heavy and a quality device) to it and then connect the supplied usb cable to your pc. It all worked instantly. You also get in the box a usb bluetooth adapter for your pc and one for your ipod. Using windows 7 I just plugged the device in the pc and the drivers installed automatically. The speakers and subwoofer are beautifully made and sound great. The bass can be adjusted to your taste and the speakers are crystal clear. I replaced a pair of Creative T40's and very happy I did. I think the price is top end of what you would want to pay for a desktop pc sound system and to be honest I am not that interested in the blue tooth connectivity, but all in all a great product. One last point. The remote control is very cheap looking and feeling.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 9 Mar 2012
I bought these because of the wireless connectivity. My main use is to connect to my Android tablet. All in all I'm fairly disappointed for the following reasons:
    - not particularly powerful. I'm not sure of the overall wattage, but these speakers struggle to fill my kitchen
    - sound: they are rather "tinny" and when the bass does kick in it dominates the sound. I have to use a graphic equaliser to fix this
    - temperamental: At random intervals the bluetooth connection is lost and I have to restart everything to reconnect.

For the price these are way too expensive.
If I still had the packaging I would send them back.
