iPod? Pah. Zen? Ah., 14 Oct 2005
This review is from: Creative Zen Micro 6GB MP3 Player - Silver (Electronics)
First of all, the first thing that is a big bonus over the iPod Mini, is the extra 2GBs, for the SAME PRICE as Apple's 4GB model. Also, its battery won't break down after less than a year, unlike the iPod's stupid built in battery which means the whole thing has to be stripped down. It also has a really cool blue lighty thingy =D.
Another point is the size. It is really, really, really small! When I got mine about 8 months ago, I pulled it out of its high quality packaging and said, "Wow! Is that it?!" It is really dinky, and looks SO much better than the iPod.
Before I got it, my dad had said to me, "Oh don't get it, It'll have tinny sound and the battery will go flat really quickly! Whats the point?" He was wrong on both accounts. Sorry dad, but technology has moved on since 80's Cassette walkmans. The sound was fantastic, and the earphones supplied were brilliant. The battery lasts for an age, even when I'm playing my metal. The iPod has always been criticised for its low volume (By this I mean that its loud isn't loud enough for most.) However, the Zen has plenty of volume, and I rarely have it more than 20 out of a maximum 25 on volume (And I like me music really loud.)
The only possible thing I can think of that the iPod does well in, is its patented click wheel. You use your thumb to scroll up and down and side to side by "Spinning" (You'll know what i mean if you've ever seen an iPod) the wheel around. The zen has a similar method. You have a vertical sensor strip that you use to scroll through your many songs, and unlike the iPod's click-wheel, you have a fast-scroll action, by holding your thumb on the end of the sensor strip. Thisp articular feature comes in very handy, prevents you getting arthritis in your thumb from all the scrolling you have to do with an iPod.
Next, the software supplied with the Zen is brilliant. It's intuitive, looks good, and most importantly, is very quick on the transfers of songs - each song taking an average of 1-2 seconds to transfer from a P.C using USB 2.0. iPod's iTunes is also pretty good, but I think that the Zen's beats it by a fair bit. Another obvious upside of the Zen is that it can take WMA (Files made using Windows Media) and MP3 sound formats, the iPod only taking iTunes (Files downloaded from Apple at a price premium) and MP3.
I hope I have thrown some light on this matter of great importance. NEVER GIVE IN TO APPLE!

Fantastic player, 3 Feb 2006
This review is from: Creative Zen Micro 6GB MP3 Player - Silver (Electronics)
I bought this for my eleven year old son for Christmas. He had wanted an iPod, but like a typical parent I didn't feel that they were great value - I don't like paying extra for a name and the zen has a radio and record function too. Anyway he told me last week that creative Zen is much better than his friend's iPod mini. The creative software is very user friendly - you don't need a degree in computing in order to use it! The player itself is very easy to use and live with, sound quality is great it holds loads of tracks. My son has 100s of music tracks plus a Harry Potter audio book on it and still has loads of space available. He uses the radio a lot to listen to football matches which aren't televised. I am surprised at how much use he has got from this machine and how few problems there have been with it - none in fact. For a child or an adult this is a fantastic little machine, it looks very nice too and is beautifully made. So be creative!

Brilliant Piece of Kit, 10 Feb 2006
This review is from: Creative Zen Micro 6GB MP3 Player - Silver (Electronics)
At long last an MP3 player that does exactly what it says on the box!
Having succumed to the Ipod brigade by buying one i was disappointed to say the least how complicated? With the difficulties Sony are experiencing with software and most reviews confirming this even a man in a well known department store agreed. I plummed for the Creative version one word WOW! Simplicity in it's self with in 10 minutes i had the software loaded 90 minutes to charge the battery and 15 minutes to get 8 albums on the player. It really is easy to get your tracks on something both Apple and Sony should take note on.
My only gripes if you can call them than is that the on/off button is bad and the sensativity is over sensative.
Other than that this really is the leader of the pack when it comes to the MP3 player market. If you're looking for one go Creative don't waste precious money on Apple or Sony you will not regret it.
