Much better than an ipod and cheaper!!,

This review is from: Creative ZEN X-Fi 8GB MP3 and Video Player with SD Card Slot (Electronics)
I first found this Mp3 player/video player thing when I was looking for something that was well constructed and designed that WAS NOT AN IPOD as I really do not like the whole "sync with Itunes" thing. The Zen X-Fi is all three of these things and much more. For starters it is very solidly made, I drop it all of the time just for fun and it won't break. Also the interface is very pleasing with a choice of themes, also if you upload pictures onto it then you can use any of them as a background which you cannot do on an Ipod. It plays music, which is good for an Mp3 player and the X-Fi clarifier works very well with the provided headphones which also are excellent. I read somewhere that the provided headphones are worth £40! Video playback is very good and I have not found a format that the X-Fi cannot play as if the video is in the wrong format then there is an automatic converter built into the "Itunes like" main hub. "Creative Centrale" the actual program which puts the music onto the player works very well importing/burning/transfering to the player. The only problem I have had with the X-Fi is the buttons. There are 9 directional buttons where four would be just fine, as I have never really had a need to go diagonal on a vertical list of songs.
Overall this is a brilliant player that I would throughly recommend. P.S. Don't be put off by the lightness of the X-Fi, I thought that I had been conned and had been sent a plastic box!! It's very light!

This review is from: Creative ZEN X-Fi 8GB MP3 and Video Player with SD Card Slot (Electronics)
Well, having owned all the previous Creative players, I find myself with the new one. Now, I didn't own the previous version because my Z V plus lasted for quite a while until I dropped it, but my wife owns the Creative Zen.
The thing is, the X-Fi is good, like most of Creative stuff. However, I don't see that it adds much relative to the previous model. Same functionality, a couple more buttons, why? Other than that, the internal headphones are an improvement. The sound is good. The ripping software is a bit slower than Windows Media Player and for some reason sometimes fails to rip the whole album, but you can still rip with Windows software and then transfer as usual. Having the memory card is great and the smart crystalliser means you won't blow your ears out when you turn the volume to the maximum. So yes, I still like Creative, but in this release, it seems they went for design rather than functionality relative to their previous models, nothing wrong with that as it still very reasonably priced. One negative point though after extensive use. Sometimes, of its own will, the player will synchronize with windows media player, transferring a whole lot of files I don't want it to. And when it transfers songs that are already in the player, it does not overwrite them but duplicate them, which is a pain. Otherwise, it's great, sounds great and looks great.

Once you've had enough of bad performance from multi function phones......,
This review is from: Creative ZEN X-Fi 8GB MP3 and Video Player with SD Card Slot (Electronics)
.....you'll be sensible to buy one of these.
I got to the point where phones and the PSP just don't cut it. Having a jack of all trades device tends to mean that it does lots of things and it doesn't do them very well. This is my first step away from "multi function devices". I don't care what additional things this does, I want it to play music and play it well. It does....exceptionally well. The X-Fi clarity is as good as that you get with Creative's sound cards. For anybody who has fitted an X-Fi extreme card, there is a big advance in sound quality. It's the same with this. Playlists aren't particularly easy to set up on the player itself but it can be done through the software provided too. There are changeable themes including the all black one in the pics and the grey and orange one depicted for the 8gb model on creative's site. Photo's can be made in to wallpapers. The firmware doesn't seem to stall and responds instantly. It has a graphic equaliser and separate x-fi enhancement. Sound quality is a real 10 out of 10. Listening to Angel by Massive Attack proves the capability of the player and the headphones - no distortion at full volume and with bass boost and increased bass on the EQ. There was also no flattening out of the sound. It stays rich and balanced at full volume. You won't need to change headphones unless you have a real dislike of in the ear noise cancelling types. The supplied ones cost £30 by themselves. Frequency response seems to be about 8-20,000 which gives the sound it's richness. Full volume is reassuringly loud. I'd had this problem with Sony Ericsson Walkman phones that were too quiet. I'd changed headphones, used CX400's etc but the sound just wasn't there nor was the volume. This has an optional volume retriction which you can set yourself. Charging is done via USB so you will need to have a PC....or maybe a PS3. Transferring files is not too bad on a slow PC - I'll update that comment when I've used my own and tried out other things like video playback. Essentially I wanted this for music and it is like a hi-fi separates sytem or hi grade sound orientated PC that fits in your pocket. I'm just going on first impressions but I'm very happy with this so far. I can't think why anybody would be disappointed with this.
