About the Author
Chris is a playwright and poet; he is also an excellent and popular teacher and divides his time between convening creative writing classes for the University of Sussex and teaching creative writing for a number of institutions including the University of Oxford and the City Literary Institute. He is a member of The Society of Authors and the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters and was at one time Deputy Chair of The Writers Guild of Great Britain.

Very simply you will get much more out of this course than any book on the market. Lots and lots and lots of exercises and audio narrative covering every aspect of learning to write. If you are serious about learning to write and are not already on a course, just buy it. Sure, you'll need to buy other books too for background information, but this gets you involved by making you actually do writing (and by the spadeful) rather than just passively reading. A bargain.

If you have ever dreamed of being a writer then this is a must have. I have thought about creative writing for a long time but never had the confidence or know-how to put pen to paper until now. Creative Writing isn't just another book. With a good balance of workbook, cd and book you can start writing straight away. It's a very long time since I last wrote an essay and the prospect was very daunting. This purchase has made all the difference. I am now finding new ideas and methods to kick start my imagination and writing skills. You will need other books, dictionaries, grammer etc and they do give recommendations for which other books to buy. It starts off very simple at first and slowly encourages you to develop your own writing and ideas using various techniques. Unlike other creative writing books it doesn't assume that you already know how to write, or have already written, short stories, poems etc. It is designed like an evening class with "set lessons" but you can pick up and put down in your own time which is great if you have other distractions (like housework or family!) It's the nearest thing to an evening class without having to attend an evening class!
