Product Description

Product Description

In this text, Mooli Lahad argues that the most effective method of supervision uses both right and left hemispheres of the brain, the intuitive and logical. He proposes that metaphors, images and stories can be used to enrich theoretical knowledge and improve our understanding of the processes of therapy and support. Lahad introduces techniques which can be employed during a supervision to release information from the creative hemisphere of the brain. These include storytelling, role-playing, guided fantasy, imaginary dialogues, letter-writing, drawing and the use of colours and shapes. Case examples show how the techniques were used, and how they provided insight into problematic relationships with clients. Drawing from his experiences of working in the aftermath of tragedy in Israel, Northern Ireland and the former Yugoslavia, Lahad examines how to supervise a crisis intervention team, also focusing on self-supervision.

I found this to be a brilliant book written in an interesting and creative way. I have used all the examples given by Mooli Lahad in this publication with my supervisees to good effect. The creativeness of his approach gives another dimension to the supervision process and gets us all to 'think out of the box'. These creative approaches take counselling supervision to another level.

I have met the author and he is exactly as he comes across in his book, a creative, sensitive and professional person who has walked his talk in the world as he helped others on an international scale. If you are bored with your supervision buy this book and have a different experience.

Creative ideas for supervision 30 Jan 2009
By CentralCA - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am an Art Therapist and new supervisor, so I was looking for books to help me be a better expressive therapy supervisor. There were several ideas that the supervisor could use to help supervisees understand their issues as a therapist, how to help their clients, and to gain more insight into unconscious material. Some people might find some of the ideas outlandish, and there were only a couple of techniques that I would consider using with my supervision group. One was to write an unsent letter to a patient using free-writing which may help the supervisee with countertransference awareness. The ideas are probably best suited to more open-minded supervisees.
