Product Description

When artists gather at a remote Appalachian estate for a retreat, they are unaware that their energy is feeding something unwholesome. Sculptor Mason Jackson and dying parapsychologist Anna Galloway must uncover the dark secrets of Korban Manor before their spirits are trapped forever.
--------------------
CREATIVE SPIRIT
A modern Gothic thriller

After parapsychologist Anna Galloway is diagnosed with metastatic cancer, she has a recurring dream in which she sees her own ghost. The setting of her dream is the historic Korban Manor, which is now an artist's retreat in the remote Appalachian Mountains. Drawn both by the ghost stories surrounding the manor and her own sense of destiny, Anna signs up for the retreat.

Sculptor Mason Jackson has come to Korban Manor to make a final, all-or-nothing attempt at success before giving up his dreams. When he becomes obsessed with carving Ephram Korban's form out of wood, he questions his motivation but is swept up in a creative frenzy unlike any he has ever known.

Sylva Hartley is an old mountain witchwoman who is connected to Ephram Korban both before and after his death. Her knowledge of Appalachian folk spells and potions has bound her to the manor in a deeper and darker way. Sylva harbors a family secret that refuses to stay slumbering in its grave.

The manor itself has secrets, with fires that blaze constantly in the hearths, portraits of Korban in every room, and deceptive mirrors on the walls. The house's brooding atmosphere affects the creative visions of the visiting artists. A mysterious woman in white calls to Anna from the forest, while Mason is driven by the whispers of an unseen critic. With an October blue moon looming, both the living and the dead learn the true power of their dreams.

It's a power that Korban craves for himself, because he walks a shadowy land where passions burn cold and even the ghosts are haunted. The author's preferred DRM-free edition of the 2004 U.S. paperback release THE MANOR.

Scott Nicholson is Kindle bestselling author of 12 novels, including THE RED CHURCH, DISINTEGRATION, TROUBLED, and SPEED DATING WITH THE DEAD.

"Scott Nicholson explores the dark legends of the southern end of the Appalachian mountain chain, a nightmare country that ends in Stephen King's yard."-- Sharyn McCrumb, author of The Ballad novels

Scott Nicholson is the kind of writer who always surprises and always entertains."--Jonathan Maberry, Patient Zero

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read, 23 Feb 2011

This review is from: Creative Spirit (UK edition) (Kindle Edition)
I can't believe I have only paid 70p for this wonderful book. I'm 35% of the way through it and the characters are getting more and more drawn into the spooky haunted house and the history of it's previous ownership .. ghosts and the pull of evil etc. all there.

Normal people go to the house to draw, sculptor, paint, photograph etc - beautifully crafted characters - and they have no idea what is going on ... the writing is exciting but it is also very descriptive and imaginative/creative in a very GOOD way. It paints the world into which one has been drawn in such an atmospheric and gripping way. The characters are interweaving together in the scenic scary world, the plot deepens and my bedside light is staying on longer and longer as I can't put the kindle down! It's not just the story that is proving to be so good, it's the quality of the writing. Excellent in every way.................

PS Now finished the book. It just got better and better. Satisfying from start to finish. The writing sweeps you along to an exciting and brilliantly descriptive finish.

Scott Nicholson is a talented and prolific author of suspense, mystery and horror. This novel, originally released in the US under another title, is his eerie take on the haunted house tale. The southern setting and gothic spirits shine. Another terrific read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicholson is indeed a creative spirit, 5 Oct 2010

Another winner from Mr Nicholson, this time with a fresh take on an old theme... the old place with a dark secret. Full of believable characters, a dark menacing atmosphere, and also shot through with the good humor that characterizes much of Scott's work.

This is horror at its best. No grue or shocks needed for effect here, just good people, in serious trouble, written by somebody that knows which buttons to push and when.

See out Mr Nicholson wherever you can find him. You won't be disappointed.
