Product Description

Product Description

Creative Space looks at the studios, apartments, and homes of the designers, directors, stylists, artists, graffiti writers, curators, novelists and innovators who are pushing the boundaries of contemporary culture. These are interiors created by people who shop in Colette in Paris, live on the Lower East Side in New York and travel to Tokyo. The domestic spaces are often DIY and strongly reflect pop culture. Filled with post-modern pop collectables, vintage junk finds, camouflage and graffiti, clothing and toy collections, contemporary art resting in bookshelves and crammed onto walls, these homes are an antidote to the sterility of minimalism. Among the 30 homes featured in the book are those of artist Julie Verhoeven and Maharishi founder Hardy Blechmann in London, graffiti artist Fafi in Paris, artists Ryan McGinness and Wes Lang in New York, innovative creatives Jaybo and Lucio Auri in Berlin, Barcelona filmmaker Roger Gual, and in Tokyo cult photographer Yasumasa Yonehara and artist Aya Takano. In a new compact format and at a very special price, this book will provide ideas and inspiration to all those who want to make their own creative space.

I had admired this book for ages in various bookshops before buying it online. It's so refreshing to look at interiors that are energized and creative rather than bland or synthetic. Really eclectic environments featured, from quite a range of people & places. Just enough info about each of them but with a concentration on the pictures. Really recommended if you are not into magnolia paint and "tasteful" decor...

Boring... 9 Jan 2012

Boring choice of interiors and miniscule text, you need a magnifying glass to read any of it! A waste of money in my opinion.

eye opening for non artists 6 Nov 2011
By carol irvin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
most people who are NOT artists imagine that they live in spaces which look like art galleries. nothing could be further from the truth. these people can rarely turn off their creativity and their space reflects this. the spaces are all comfortable. they all have big book collections stacked in various strategic positions. sometimes a computer is out in the open. there is not a single home entertainment center in sight. there is not even one tv which is visible. close to every artist has various figurines, whether toys or comic characters or fantastical creatures. just about everyone has white or beige walls but that may solely be because they forgot about the walls a long time ago other than for holding their stuff. most of the space does not look expensive and the most common style is eclectic as various ideas are tried out and either discarded or pursued. it is hard to tell which is which. i would be very happy visiting in any of these spaces but not everyone would be. i think it is fairly certain that none of these people ever felt the need for a decorator if for no other reason than their decor can turn on a whim of any given day, which would be impossible for someone else to plan. take notice though: IT ALL WORKS!
