Product Description

Review

"The 52 assignments here will nurture readers photography skills by acclimating them to photographic technology and by encouraging them to make this largely digital and mechanical medium more their own. Commercial photographer Steve Sonheim and artist, instructor, and author Carla Sonheim (Drawing Lab for Mixed Media Artists: 52 Creative Exercises To Make Drawing Fun) believe in the significance of a photograph, even in this age of ubiquitous cameras. Sections on observation, light, storytelling, portraiture, and more will help readers realize photography s creative potential. Assignments allow readers to use their choice of digital single-lens reflex, point-and-shoot, or smartphone cameras. VERDICT This highly accessible guidebook will have broad appeal." - Library Journal"

Easy to read, great projects suit many levels and all types of digital camera. Bought it for my son who is doing GCSE Photography and he loves it. My husband who has enjoyed photography for many years has also found some interesting and useful information in it too. A very good buy.

If you own a camera of any kind and want to make the most of it... you need this book 11 Jan. 2014

I ordered this book based on Carla Sonheim's other books. I'm not much of a photographer, and -- despite the fancy cameras collecting dust in my home studio -- I haven't a clue what I'm doing when I take pictures.

This book is changing all of that. I'm learning about cameras, how to use them for best effect, and what to look for when I'm taking a photo or evaluating it, later.

"Creative Photography Lab" is ideal for people who use their mobile phones as cameras, too. Few photography books explore that kind of camera as well as they should.

The exercises in this book are superb, and clearly explained for people like me, who start out "camera illiterate."

However, for those with more camera experience, I think this book will open new doors to new ways to explore photography.

If you're buying just one book to learn to take photos, this is probably the one to get.

I have never been able to wrap my head around aperture and exposure. It seems backwards to me! I have bought many books over the years, but to no avail. Steve explains it in a way that makes it easy to understand and remember.

Great book 26 Aug. 2013

I have been enjoying the lessons Steve lays out in this book. They are informative and fun. I have been trying to get comfortable with my camera for a long time. These exercises make learning a whole lot of fun. Even if I never take a professional looking photograph, I will enjoy trying new things and appreciating this craft.
