These are actually great! I didn't buy them from Amazon.co.uk though cuz scan.co.uk had them £10 cheaper (price may be different by the time you read this). But I gotta say they're great! Heres my appraisal
Music: For a gaming headset its great with music. The bass is immense and with the 50mm drivers really good quality indeed. Really tuned to get out deep and ambient sounds. If you're into hip hop this would be great.
Gaming: Its really deep, which may be a good or bad thing considering what you're looking for. If you want strictly for gaming then the default high bass on this will cause ambient sounds to be too high and cause you fps players not to hear important sounds like footsteps etc. However for you techies there you would be easily be able to fiddle with it and get the bass just right.
I played bfbc2 with these and once when a soldier was beside me speaking it sounded like he was right over my shoulder. I could feel the depth slightly, was really interesting. They didn't seems the 3d surround thing wasn't just a gimick. However their claims about being able to hear up from down were far-fetched. I couldn't discern up from down while playing or watching movies. I'm assuming its new technology and most sounds havnent' been recorded to express vertical sound direction. It doesn't lose points in my book for that though
Movies: Absolutely stunning, I watched pirates of the carribean and woah was I impressed. the sounds from hallways and caves were discernable from being out in the open. You could hear little things you couldn't hear which made the experience much better.
However to get the quality compared to all i just described you gotta do a lot of sound fiddling to get it right. Luckily you can download preset sound configurations and load them. Thats one good feature so if you're someone who doesn't care to fiddle too much theres people who've already made optimized configurations on the net and you could download their settings.
Also, one thing to point out is, Although the USB is optional but They sound better played from USB. Probably has to do with usb being digital signals and the jacks being analog signals
Overall its a 9/10 from me. I like em and I'm impressed. Creative have made a splendid headset
