Product Description

Product Description

Artist, inventor, and longtime author Rodney Frost is known for wacky, whimsical woodworking books that encourage readers to experiment. With his newest, most creative volume yet, he provides an introduction to the wild and whimsical world of kinetic art - art that moves. Using plenty of informative sidebars and dynamic illustrations, Frost teaches the basic techniques in his own inimitable style, beginning with easy, fun projects like weather vanes and mobiles powered by air currents alone. Then its on to simple toys you manipulate with strings, and art mechanised by levers, cranks, cams, and cogs. Far from a routine woodworking book, Creative Kinetics will inspire even the least craft-minded reader to pick up some scissors and turn a tuna can into a propeller or cardboard into a jumping-jack.

Format:Paperback
Visually a little dated but a very useful, easy to understand book that would be very useful for students of all ages.
Good resource to have.

Good stuff! 26 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
This is the second Rodney Frost book on automata that I've bought. The other being Mad Toys etc. This book is similar in it's really clear easy to follow manner. Again if you are interested in automata/ whirligigs/ mechanical toys, this is a great book to have on your book shelf! Well worth the money, really interesting with a "I can do that" feel about it!
Definately a good buy!

I found this book to be a great resource; however I find the format less useful for workshop use and better for helping to formulate ideas and designs that you take to your workbench. I like much of the solutions interesting to follow - good book.
