I spent a long time researching a pair of 2.1 speakers to use with my laptop.
I EVENTUALLY decided to go this pair, reasons for my choice:

1- Sleek and stylish looking. The satellites are made of high grade aluminium with a high gloss back. The satellites look amazing when light reflects of them gives a real classy look. The satellites have an all over smooth surface and a decent weight.
The subwoofer is made of wood with a small amount of plastic on the front as visible in the photo.
The control box is simple and functional (made of plastics). It has a headphone port and an aux port ( on the front). On top there are two buttons, power and mute. The volume dial when turned adjusts green bars on the front of the control box. when the centre button of the volume control is pushed an orange light turns on to indicate that you are now adjusting the base. Also comes with remote to adjust volume base...

2- Sound quality, the speakers have a combined total of 48 watts, 2x9 for satellites & 30 for the subwoofer.
For a 2.1 system I find the sound quality perfectly acceptable. The base is reasonable for none too serious sound lovers.
When watching a video or film it feels like the sound is all around you.
You can also plug game consoles into into these speakers with the adapter that accompanies these speakers.

3- Price to me is reasonable, not too expensive but not too cheap. These speakers look nice, sound good and have functionability so in my opinion the value for money noticeable.

oddly the power source is actually attractive. Its a small solid metal brick with lined indents

Setup was simple and quick. I experienced no hardware faults on delivery and still none at present ( had these speakers for 10 months).

If you like quality and style these are a possibility for you. The satellites go very well with an aluminium macbook/pro. Metal with metal.

OK, sadly my old Yamaha speakers gave out on me after 8 years of great service. After reveiwing as many speakers as I could, I decided to go for a Creative set. Creative are supposed to be the kings of audio.

I got these speakers a week ago. When they first arrived they were a piece of cake to set up. However, they wouldn't work. I tried everything to get them to work... nothing! I got a relative to look them over and he found the pins for the volume/base controller were damaged. HE fixed them for me and the controlloer plugged in fine that time. The speakers work fine! However, seems strange that the speakers are depaendant on the volume base controller to work.

Another gripe is everytime you load you PC and turn on the speakers, I have to reset the base to how I want it again!!! Every single time which is daft for me. The satilites are a bit on the tinny side for my liking. Thank god the sub can produce some base. Not as basey as I'd expect I must say however, there is enough there not to ruin the experience for me. These speakers do look really cool though. Very good looking pair. When it comes to performance though, they are average and awkward. Not a bad product but, I so miss my old yamaha's. They were the best.

I bought these for two specific reasons - to cut down on wiring and space (previous 5.1 and 7.1 systems meant cables all over the place along with finding spots for satellite speakers), and because of the remote control (to avoid having to keep getting up to adjust settings if watching/browsing from a distance). In addition, with a fairly small room I assumed that 48w and three speakers would actually be enough for my multimedia needs.

Well, the speakers do work; both the bass and the tweeters deliver quite insistent volume and you can use the remote or the cabled volume control/remote receiver to adjust the balance between bass, treble and overall volume, along with a quick mute function, and some media buttons (play, forward etc.) that you can program. The speakers are very small and light, and setting up is very easy enough. Having a 2.1 system does simplify things and the remote works from up to 15ft away without having to point it directly at the receiver. The tweeter leads aren't very long, but this setup isn't designed to cover large areas so it's not an issue.

However, with hindsight I will almost certainly choose differently next time. The main thing is that the sound quality is cold, cold, COLD. Bearing in mind I previously had alternative PC speaker setups, and also have reference speakers in the same room for use with a media creation PC, I can say categorically this is not a room acoustic issue. The sub-woofer is loud but not at all warm; and the treble is dry and bright, but not in a good way! In fact, the sound almost reminds me of certain reference speakers (eg. Yamaha NS10s), with a harsh, honking midrange and flat resonances - but that's NOT what I want from my PC speakers - I want a bit of sparkle, a little extra low end and some roundness to flatter any compressed digital sounds (MP3s, Youtube etc.), and some kind of rewarding beef when I'm playing CDs or DVDs. The poor sound quality actually offsets the benefit of the remote control, since it requires a lot more fiddling to get a "nice" balance and level. The fact that there's quite a lot of loudness available (I rarely even touch 40% of the level) isn't enough of a compensation for me, but might be a selling point if you like your music pumping.

I guess as always you get what you pay for. I am still a fan of Creative products in general, but I know there are 2.1 setups out there with more warmth and richer sound quality, so next time I will take the plunge and spend a bit more.
