Book Description

16 Sep 2009
"Creative Grab Bag" is a collection of work from artists, illustrators and designers from around the world. Author Ethan Bodnar created over 30 unique tasks and gave each contributor a task that was different from their typical work. The creative tasks include: design a building, illustrate a memory, create a collage, design a piece of furniture, create a photo essay, design a typeface, design a character, and make a wallpaper pattern. It contains images of each artist's creative task, typical work, and a biography and short reflection on the creative process. It also provides tear out cards so readers will be able create their own grab bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good art/ design/ illustration challenges for portfolio work or additional practice 24 Aug 2014
By Callie - Published on
Good assortment of design exercises and ideas (choose a project, preferably not in your usual discipline, and execute). Helps to generate creative thinking by taking on projects you wouldn't normally consider doing. If you need to create some portfolio work or are looking for exercises similar to what graphic design schools assign, check this book out.

This is actually written like a text book, and definitely not what I was expecting when ordering the product. Disappointed.

I bought it used, it was a little beat up, but I couldn't beat the price. It's a fun book for creative people and designers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page 74 is bound for glory 23 Aug 2009
By Richard Hollant - Published on
What a great idea. When Ethan presented this concept to us, we were immediately intrigued. The pages we've seem thus far live up to the promise. Ambitious, insightful and a great catalyst for discussion. Well done.
