I am now completely addicted to felting, thanks to this book!
I have admired Lizzie Houghton's felt, at the London Knitting and Stitching shows, for a few years. When I learned she was writing a book about felting I ordered it.
I had already done a little felting, mostly on small projects such as beads and I owned a number of felt books but I hadn't really ever made a piece of flat felt.
The directions at the front of the book for making flat felt are the simplest I have read, requiring easily available tools like bubble wrap and plastic dust sheets rather than sushi mats etc. I followed her instructions and got good even pieces of felt right away.
But the best part of the book is all the inspiring samples! There are loads of ideas in here and it covers a wide variety of techniques. There are no step-by-step projects as such but the book clearly explains how any of the inspiring samples can be made into purses, hats or scarves. Working around plastic resists is also explained.
This book is one of my top 5 craft books ever and I'm sure I will be enjoying it for years!

great for ideas on how to use different colour schemes in producing felt pieces. does not contain any projects as such, which was a bit of a let down. but if you know what it is you want to create and want some inspiration, this may be for you

I was given this by a friend and think it is one of the most inspirational felting books I have. There are no step by step projects, so maybe not the best book for a true beginner, but the 'how to' section at the front and the clear way the different techniques and samples are explained mean that anyone who is at the start of their felting adventure could probably follow it reasonably well.

The way the different samples are presented is very inspirational - they are grouped by colour and the background inspiration for that colour, seaweed, fossils, fungus, honeycombs etc is discussed and the method or technique described in a step by step way. They are not projects as you never see the felt in a finished object (wall hanging, scarf etc)but there are lots of close up pictures of the actual felt and there are no details provided as to how you could use the felt once made. For me this is great as I can use the ideas to learn and explore techniques and make into my own projects without feeling I am copying someone else's ideas.

The whole tone of the book is one that will encourage you to explore different methods and techniques using your own environment and fibres/fabrics that may come to hand in your own home or workspace. I recommend it.
