I am working as a family therapist for more than 15 years already and received this book as a gift. When reading through it I was very taken by the wealth of experienced therapeutic knowledge that went into this collection of family therapeutic interventions.
The interventions are very well categorized and easy to apply. I definitely will recommend this book to my colleagues even though English is not our first language. This book is a real gem for the novice as well as the seasoned therapist.

This book is a collection of practical interventions for working with children in Family Therapy. The activities are playful and creative designed to engage children in the therapeutic process of Family Therapy. The book provides a theoretical overview and clear guidelines for therapeutic practitioners. The activities are clearly set out with useful discussions. A very useful resource for Play Therapists, Therapists, Counsellors and Family Therapists.

I purchased this book recently for information purposes in order to assist in the preparation of a group presentation for my Play therapy course. It has a very clear therapeutic overview section which enabled me to understand more clearly the why and how of Family therapy. The practical exercises included cover a range of approaches and should prove useful for many families. There are clear instructions on what materials are needed and what to watch out for while using the exercises. I feel this is a manual for Family Therapy with children.

Families can be the toughest "group" to work with in a mental health setting (counseling, school counseling, therapy, social work, play therapy, etc.). Everyone in the group has history together, and they constantly interact with one another outside of session. In this book, Liana Lowenstein brought together creative and engaging activities from mental health practitioners from all over the world for assessing and treating families, as well as terminating family therapy.

These activities invite families to work together to complete challenges, tasks, and explore their relationships in thoughtful yet fun ways. Therapists can use these activities to observe both process and content points to stimulate discussions and take the session deeper. Although authored by different practitioners, each activity has a common format that presents: the goals of the activity, materials and advance preparation needed, a step-by-step guide to introducing and running the activity (including helpful processing questions and adaptations), discussion by the authors to give you insight into the activity or the theory(ies) behind it, and an author bio, so you can see the context in which the activity was developed.

Overall, solid reference for anyone working with families!
