These headphones do pretty much what the manufacturer says they will, but ultimately the sound is disappointing. I used them for the first time on a long haul flight from UK to the Caribbean, and the noise cancelling circuitry worked pretty well. They were comfortable to wear for extended periods and not hearing the jet roar made for a less tiring flight - pity they couldn't do anything about the legroom!
Where they disappoint me is in the sound quality. The music sounds 'muddy' with very little dynamic separation. The sound is adequate but far from inspiring. I wasn't expecting the highest sound quality from noise cancelling 'phones, but I was expecting better than they delivered. I don't feel strongly enough about this to send them back, but I do kind of wish I'd spent the extra on some Bose headphones - you get what you pay for I guess!

The sound quality may be very good, but there are two important downsides:
1) The headphones break very easily if you have a larger than average head. Very poor construction for headphones costing £180 plus. I've had to repair mine with plastic zip-clips.
2) The detachable input cable is very slight considering the size of the phones and it breaks very easily as well. The big downside is that Creative don't sell spare parts for their phones and so I now have this very expensive pair of headphones that are now unusable. I've contacted Creative support who offer the helpful advice "I'm very sorry but we're unable to help you in this situation." Nice.

So my advice is: don't buy these phones, and based on their support for their products, don't buy any Creative headphones.

I used these on a trip down under, so they had a 24hr flight each way in which to prove themselves. They definitely made me feel less tired than when I have done the same trip before, as you are not constantly battling with the noise of the aircraft to hear your music or film. They also meant that I was less terrified at thought of sitting near anyone with a small child!

Plus points:
- very comfortable
- noise cancelling works well with aircraft drone and noise in general
- case is very handy (and inlcudes adapter for airplane double jacks)
- AAA batteries mean you're not left without power half way through flight
- work as normal headphones without power
- generally feel well made

Negatives:
- do not cut out all noise (although once sound coming through you don;t really notice much)
- not sure about the x-fi bit, seems to work better on films than music
- plastic cover over battery compartment cheap
- they (like others in this category) are quire bulky and take up a bit of space in hand luggage

For the price they seem pretty good value
