Product Description

Product Description

Silken strands of hair. Water tumbling over rocks. Dazzling reflections in glass or metal. The textures of these elements make watercolour paintings come alive.

They make the viewers feel as if they could "step right into" the scenes an artist has created. Here, expert Cathy Johnson shows them how to create these textures without creating a muddy mess. In her practical, step-by-step manner, she shows how to create 83 different textures, including fruits and vegetables, hair, glass, metal, fabric, flowers, fur, skin and various natural textures.

Each of these textures is demonstrated by Johnson's beautiful watercolour sketches, all with hints and tips to illustrate individual techniques. Artists can apply these techniques to their own work to create fabulous watercolour paintings that almost seem to "breathe."

4.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for beginners, 14 July 2000
By A Customer
I thought this book to be most helpful for adding that last little detail to rust, bark or wood. The author gave almost every possible means of perfecting ones ability for that detailed work. It is especially helpful to the person who has not yet experienced a class full of tricks and tips. It helps you achieve more with your paintings and lowers the frustration level.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Beginning Watercolor Painter's Best Friend, 2 May 1999
By A Customer
As a beginning watercolor painter (6 months), I find this book to be tremendously helpful when I embark on new subjects. The close up views, particularly the animal fur and tree bark textures, are great!

1.0 out of 5 stars A Visual Bonanza of Detail, 26 July 1998
By A Customer
This book isn't huge, but the detailed paintings get up close and personal with the subjects. It shows a good range of textures and details upon which to build your own work. As a beginner, it's always a daunting task to understand the burning question... "How'd they do that?" This is a great start. Thanks.
