5.0 out of 5 stars To all radio people, I say 'YOU NEED THIS' 4 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
Anyone working in radio can tell you stories about how magical moments have occurred on air in the past. Usually they came about by accident, based on an ad libbed remark or maybe a fantastic caller. Read this book, or - better still - meet Valerie in person, and the days of those accidents will be over; you'll have the recipe to make that magic on purpose!

Scott Solder, Programme Director - LBC 97.3 FM, London's Biggest Conversation.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a true inspiration! 21 May 2007
Format:Paperback
I've worked in and out of radio for the last 11 years as a presenter and as a guest on other presenters' programmes. I'm also one of the lucky ones who has met Valerie Geller. It's been an absolute pleasure and delight to have been coached by her in person and to have had the honour to absorb just a tiny drop of the ocean of valuable knowledge she has in the field of radio.

You may not have the opportunity to meet Valerie and work with her. In which case her book Creating Powerful Radio is a definite must-read. But even if you have met Valerie it's a crucial reminder of her "voice" and every skill she would like to "grow" in broadcasters. Her book is the distilled version of Valerie - thought-provoking, lively, animated, informative, insightful and fun!

Valerie has such an enormous wealth of knowledge and the most wonderful thing about her, and her writing, is that she truly wants to share this with broadcasters, producers and managers alike. Creating Powerful Radio is the nearest thing you'll get to meeting Valerie herself. It contains all of her key principles for making the most of your on-air time no matter what sort of situation you find yourself in - and with the flexibility and unpredictable nature of live radio in particular, one never knows what situation they might find themselves in.

The wonderful thing about radio is that every programme is a new experience - fresh and different from any other programme. Valerie inspires this sense of going with the moment, trusting your instincts, letting a story unfold, and more, with every new programme experience. I find her emphasis on tapping into the richness of your own life to bring to broadcasting particularly inspirational. This book is a resource that you'll refer back to time and time again.

I bought this book when creating an experimental piece of radio work to give me a wider knowledge of audiences and how to entertain them. I found it very useful as I also used it to help me write my dissertation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creating Powerful Radio 15 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
With over 40 years in the business one is never too old or wise to keep refreshing the core values and this book certainly strips back the B.S. and offers you the facts and not the fiction. As they say to get into broadcasting one needs experience and to obtain that experience you need to be there in some capicity already so this book gives you exactly what you need. Honesty. A great Read and Reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is inspirational 7 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
Having worked in radio for over 20 years, I thought I knew it all until I met Valerie! From her, I learned that the medium is not just about formatics, structure and 'painting by numbers' but drawing the best out of talented people, heightening creativity, imagination and the human spirit. As a radio boss you want to keep Valerie in your pocket for all occasions but, if that isn't practical, buy her book. It encapsulates the Geller genius, perfectly.
