Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects CS3
by Trish & Chris Meyer

If you're serious about using After Effects professionally then I'd recommend that you buy this book. It covers all the main areas of AE from basic animation, lighting, 3D, Expressions and beyond. It does all this clearly and concisely with well structured chapters, and an accompanying DVD of carefully structured tutorials that integrate exceptionally well with the chapter examples.

At nearly 700 pages it's a weighty book - but this is indicative only of it's depth and breadth. It's been well laid out too with lots of illustrations to compliment the text. And speaking of the text; it's clear and detailed, and yet very accessible to any level of user.

In an application that has almost limitless possibilities (and if you know anything about After Effects you'll know how true this is), the authors, Trish and Chris Meyer, well respected experts in the world of motion graphics, have done a great job of providing a structured learning path in this book. And they also give lots of tips, advice and references to further reading along the way.
I'd recommend this book to any professionals working in broadcast who want to learn AE and motion graphics.

(N.B: Though written specifically for CS3, I used this book with AE CS4 and found that 99% of it is applicable to both).

An excellent book in every respect.

The writing style of the Meyer's is superb. Goes from covering basic operation to some of the more complex features of AfterEffects seamlessly and far better than anyone else.

Books on AfterEffects require good colour printing and again it is excellent.

Difficult to think of any substantial criticism of this book. The only other s/w book of the 15+ I own that could be put in this same standard of excellence is McFarland's Dreamweaver Missing Manual.

I've had a couple of versions of this book and really can't praise it highly enough!

Coming back to AE CS4, I just bought a couple of other AE books and it really brought it home how good this book is - not just the undeniably good content but the quality of design, layout and paper/printing etc. These other books were shocking - especially for the price they were charging. This book is one I do and will continue to return to time and again. Out of all the (many) technical books I've read, Creating Motion Graphics is one of those that gives an almost guilty feeling of pleasure and richness!

Every page is packed with great info and every available bit of space filled with extra hints and tips. A great and pleasurable way to learn AE or very useful as reference. Well recommended :)
