Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects CS3
by Trish & Chris Meyer
If you're serious about using After Effects professionally then I'd recommend that you buy this book. It covers all the main areas of AE from basic animation, lighting, 3D, Expressions and beyond. It does all this clearly and concisely with well structured chapters, and an accompanying DVD of carefully structured tutorials that integrate exceptionally well with the chapter examples.
At nearly 700 pages it's a weighty book - but this is indicative only of it's depth and breadth. It's been well laid out too with lots of illustrations to compliment the text. And speaking of the text; it's clear and detailed, and yet very accessible to any level of user.
In an application that has almost limitless possibilities (and if you know anything about After Effects you'll know how true this is), the authors, Trish and Chris Meyer, well respected experts in the world of motion graphics, have done a great job of providing a structured learning path in this book. And they also give lots of tips, advice and references to further reading along the way.
I'd recommend this book to any professionals working in broadcast who want to learn AE and motion graphics.
(N.B: Though written specifically for CS3, I used this book with AE CS4 and found that 99% of it is applicable to both).
