Book Description

Trish and Chris Meyer share over 17 years of hard-earned, real-world film and video production experience inside this critically acclaimed text. More than a step-by-step review of the features in AE, readers will learn how the program thinks so that they can realize their own visions more quickly and efficiently. This full-color book is packed with tips, gotchas, and sage advice that will help users thrive no matter what projects they might encounter. Creating Motion Graphics 5th Edition has been thoroughly revised to reflect the new features introduced in both After Effects CS4 and CS5. New chapters cover the revolutionary new Roto Brush feature, as well as mocha and mocha shape. The 3D section has been expanded to include working with 3D effects such as Digieffects FreeForm plus workflows including Adobe Repoussé, Vanishing Point Exchange, and 3D model import using Adobe Photoshop Extended. The print version is also accompanied by a DVD that contains project files and source materials for all the techniques demonstrated in the book, as well as nearly 200 pages of bonus chapters on subjects such as expressions, scripting, and effects.  Subjects include: Animation Techniques; Layer Management; Modes, Masks, and Mattes; Mastering 3D Space; Text Animation; Effects & Presets; Painting and Rotoscoping; Parenting, Nesting, and Collapsing; Color Management and Video Essentials; Motion Tracking and Keying; Working with Audio; Integrating with 3D Applications; Puppet Tools; Expressions; Exporting and Rendering; and much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is it! 15 Dec. 2011
Format:Paperback
Now listen very carefully....I will say this only once...
This book, by the Meyers, is the only one you will ever need. It is so comprehensive and is an instructional book, a follow-it book and a reference for anything After Effects. At 752 pages you will find what you want in there somewhere, so buy it whilst the price is so reasonable. I bought it when it was first published and it has been my constant companion ever since.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard work, but comprehensive 19 Nov. 2013
By SimonT
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a massive book, and to start with I found it very difficult to follow, as it uses a lot of jargon and keeps referring forward to later chapters. Then one reaches a point where suddenly all the basics become (fairly) clear, and the book makes much more sense. I then found that I could dip into chapters at will.
There is so much to learn, this is hardly a criticism of the authors, but it is daunting. If you want a book that covers just about everything in AE, this has to be the one. It gets easier to read as you become more familiar with the software. Persevere!
I found supplementing it with some of the free tutorials on YouTube helped enormously with trickier effects.
Perhaps I should have started with a basic tutor from scratch, but then I reckon I would have bought this book eventually anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book and useful tutorials. 8 Feb. 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a great book and has useful tutorials. I find though the artistic approach of the motion graphics a bit outdated. The design of motion graphics has very low aesthetics. But it is very good to technically improve your skills.
