Product Description

Master the art of third-generation site design Creating Killer Web Sites was the first true design book for the Web. It became the best-selling book on the Internet in 1996 and has been translated into ten languages. It has taught an entire generation of site designers how to get control over their pages. It shows, in practical terms, the fundamentals of design applied to the Web. Now completely updated! Every chapter has new material! In this expanded second edition, you'll find the techniques and principles you need to build sites for today's 4.0 and the coming 5.0 browsers. Much of the book has been rewritten with new tips, new tools, updated HTML, and an emphasis on cross-browser compatibility. There are three new chapters on strategies designers will need to know going forward, including a detailed style-sheet tutorial.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book really started a lot..., 25 Jun 1999

I have a lot of books now about web design (as opposed to the coding/programming side of things) but really the first edition of Creating Killer Web Sites was probably the first book which helped to open people's eyes to the possibilities of good - or at least, not-indifferent - design on the web. I have both editions, and still refer to the 2nd edition and visit the web site whenever I feel the need for little inspiration. No I do not necessarily think that all of David Siegel's designs - or the designs he likes - are "good" per se, or to my taste, but at least, they get you thinking in different directions. Nowadays of course there are plenty of other books in this genre - most notable among them perhaps is HTML Artistry - with more up-to-date technical information, but Creating Killer Web Sites is still a very worthwhile addition to any serious web or online-based designer's bookshelf. And I do hope there's a new edition in the works :)

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, just what we techy peeps have been looking for!, 20 Nov 2000

For those of us already up to speed with the html code, or the authorship tools, a book which only briefly touches on tips and tweaks for code, but really delves into the dirt of structuring a site to keep the attention of an audience is brilliant. I've been html-ing for 2-3 years, and this book was a major help.... even for a book published 3 years back, the lack of html code means it can still hold it's own. For those who really want to produce professional sites, a must-buy...

Look folks - it's pretty simple. The focus here is on good design - you want HTML nuts and bolts? - go elsewhere. You want javascript freebies? - go elsewhere. Third-Generation web sites are just that - when you've plinked out your first two brain dumps and are looking to do something better, different - perhaps original - then lay down your money and collect this excellent prize.
