Product Description

Creating Garden Ponds and Water Features is a highly illustrated, instructional yet inspirational guide to successfully introducing water into your garden.

The first section of the book provides sources of inspiration and looks at all the design aspects you need to consider, from siting a pond to selecting the most appropriate water feature for your garden.

A unique aspect of the book is the way in which the authors explore the thinking behind existing water gardens and show how they can be reworked to create a variety of completely new designs. Whether you have a patio, small city courtyard, or a larger suburban plot, you will find the right water garden design for you.

The second section contains all the practical information necessary to construct a garden pond or water feature, and features numerous step-by-step illustrations showing how to install them safely and efficiently.

Essential information is included on buying and selecting suitable plants to create the right setting for your pond or water feature. Photographic glossaries help you to choose the best plants and fish with expert advice on how to keep fish healthy.

A special feature of the book is how to construct a wildlife pond and attract a variety of wildlife into your garden.

Finally, there is in-depth information on pond management, ranging from maintaining water quality and pond plants to pond structure and equipment. There is also a useful maintenance table to remind you of the essential tasks for each season.

Whatever the size of your garden, Creating Garden Ponds and Water Features will inspire and encourage you to give your garden a whole new lease of life.

Used with the RHS Water Gardening manual this is a superb combination and introduction to water in the garden. Although containing the basics, ideas and methodologies - it takes things further....to the next level showing some adventurous projects and providing the seeds to develop ones own ideas.

Photos and drawings are clear and concise with many fresh ideas. Although I have built a Koi pond and water feature previously, I am viewing my new garden with fresh ideas and thoughts.

The book has many illustrations, giving quite a wide range of ideas for making a pond. Styles are very different, so everyone should find something they like. Pictures are small though (several per page and the format is not that big), so you can't describe this book as an illustration book.
There is not much explanation text or any in depth study though, so it will not take you much further.
Not a bad buy, but I cleary needed another book to complement this one.
