Product Description

Institutionalized at a young age after the breakup of her parents, Ella’s always heard voices. Even worse, the voices in her head like to act. She thinks she’s crazy and destined to be a patient for life until the night she meets a vampire and for the first time in her life, the voices shut up.

Zane just wants to enjoy his usual blood buffet, instead he runs into a wisp of a woman who makes him feel emotions he thought long dead. Rescuing her from the insane asylum, he brings her home, determined to assuage his lust; a plan that is foiled by ghostly voices more determined to keep her pure than a steel welded chastity belt.

Together they discover Ella might not be as crazy as everyone thinks, but even as they discover her innate power, someone from her past wants to hurt her. Will crazy and undead prevail against covetous evil? And most important of all, will the voices ever allow them to indulge in the desire that consumes them?

I've read several of Eve Langlais' heroes but never a vampire one before, and I loved the jaded guy. I like how EL wrote Zane as almost over the top, especially with the cape. He's this odd mix of other-worldly, old world and modern. You have to love a vamp who can flip his cape, float to the ground and then press the key fob to his car. And with lines like, "I know better than to play with my food," you can't help but be charmed by the bad boy.

As for the heroine, she hears dead people. Yes, it's just as odd and funny as you think, yet also a little sad at the same time. Ella's been locked away from age seven to twenty-five in a psychiatric institution. Everyone thinks she's crazy with the many different voices she hears in her head. Sometimes these voices manifest themselves physically and with great effect, always protecting her, always predicting what will be, and always freaking other people out, everyone except Zane who is intrigued and captivated by Ella.

For Ella, Zane is a chance to live free and to be loved for once in her life. For Zane, Ella is the person who doesn't look at him with disgust or with fear but with love and longing. Just two lonely people finding each other and love in the psych ward where Zane often shows up for his "blood buffet." This unlikely place and these two unusual characters make for a sexy and quirky paranormal romance. This is a fairly quick read (62 kindle pages), but it was a nice bit of sweet fun.

Sometimes the voices really do know what they're talking about 28 Nov 2011
By cathyr - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Plot:
The voices said he was not to be trusted. Ella knew he would protect her. But when danger appears from the sunlight, Ella shows she has her own inner strength.

Comments:
- Contemporary paranormal including vampires and magic with a couple of explicit sex scenes.
- 910 kindle locations, 23,500 words (novella)
- m/f but explicit spicy rather than erotica. Not frequent.
- Ella has been institutionalised since the age of 7 (now 25). There is some discussion of the life she led while "imprisoned". While the voices kept her from harm, and she maintained the indomitable spirit Zane adores, it isn't a nice thing to consider a child going through.
- Another book? A very open ending, Ms Langlais. Please tell me we'll one day get to meet Ella and Zane again...

Opinion:
One of my absolute favourites, I adore the kookiness of Ella and the Mysterious Darkness that is Zane. "Crazy" is one of those books that stays with me long after I've moved on to another. Now, I can't tell you too much about this book; like many of Langlais' books, the unexpected twists and turns are what makes the book such a fun read. Suffice it to say "Crazy" is really interesting with a clever premise, strong story, lovely romance, and wonderful characters. Another of her books I highly recommend.

great read! 16 Mar 2012

It is hard to describe what makes this book soo great. I really enjoyed this refreshing adventure story with its unique characters. Well written. Perfect balance between the characters themselves and the story. Often put a smile on my face. (or I might just have a twisted sense of humour).

This next statement is phara-phrasing another review, but is soo true -
"One of my absolute favourites, I adore the kookiness of Ella and the Mysterious Darkness that is Zane. "Crazy" is one of those books that has stayed with me long after I've moved on to another ...". (Cathyr)

Thankyou Ms Langlais for unique characters, and for keeping them simple, not one thing one minute and something else the next. Especially for not having a whiny or self-loathing heroine (something I find very distracting in other books). The simple strenght of the characters adds to the chemistry between them as well as the interesting flow of the story.

Please, please let there be a sequel!

A fast, satisfying, mysterious vampy read! 20 Dec 2010
By Carole "The Romance Reviews" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Crazy is a paranormal story about a vamp, Zane, who happens upon a girl in a psychiatric institution, Ella, whom he has no powers over. Ella hears voices in her head. Hundreds of voices. To make matters worse, the voices have been known to actually act out to protect her as they see fit. Of course, living in an institution, the protection comes with a price. Everyone assumes Ella is responsible.

Once Zane frees Ella, the adventure into what she is and why her talent makes her desirable leads to one wild and fast ride. The two have an undeniable attraction for each other, craving physical intimacy. Unfortunately for them, the spirits work to protect Ella from Zane's spoiling of her purity. The funniest parts came as the spirits time and time again prevented Ella and Zane from acting on their lust. They'd let the two get stirred up and then they would start pummeling them with household objects.

Talk about sexual frustration!

The story is an action packed short that made my treadmill time fly by. It engrossed me enough that I sat down on a chair after walking and didn't get up until I'd finished.
It is erotica, but it really wasn't the heat that drew me in. It wasn't even the two lovey-dovey protagonists that enraptured me. It was the adventure. Frankly, I would have preferred a little more doubt, angst, and turmoil to build the characters into more believable and endearing personalities. Instead, they were a little too quick to forgive, a little too Polly perfect for me.

The adventure and the secondary characters that propelled the story along on the other hand really kept my interest going. The world building was fascinating. This could be a start to a great series.

For a fast, satisfying, mysterious vampy read, Crazy will take you away for a few hours of fun. Enjoy!
