5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant fun AND educational, 7 Jan 2008

This is an excellent little game! Its problems range from dead simple to fiendishly taxing. I spent numerous hours playing it over christmas and have just bought a copy for my nine year old nephew (who absolutely loves it too).

Great fun for one and all!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't works in new Macs!!!!, 8 Jan 2008

The package, the Amazon web and the Viva Media site are talking about a Win Mac CD-Rom. Is False.
Don't works in my iMac Intel Core2Duo with Leopard.
The support of Viva Media answered to me "Unfortunately, the Macs with the new Intel Processor does not seem to operate properly with Crazy Machines. We can offer you another game of ours in replacement of Crazy Machines if you'd like. It is called AGON."
Be carefully.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a superb game., 25 Nov 2008

Two of the previous reviews give a false impression - one just rants about Amazon and the other makes a good point about the 'Mac' problem but doesn't comment on the game itself.

In essence, this program is in the same vein as Sierra's 'Incredible Machine' series. You are presented with a set of challenges and various wacky elements, machine parts and oddities with which to make a 'machine' work. I wouldn't say it was virtual engineering so much as 'imagineering'.

Unlike Sierra's latest versions of 'The Incredible Machine' (now called 'Contraptions' and 'Even more contraptions'), you can opt to turn off the annoying 'commentator' and you don't have to play the game with the CD in the disk drive. Even better, you don't find yourself being persuaded to use AOL as your ISP, which is what happens with the Sierra games.

The early challenges in 'Wacky machines' are annoyingly simple, but have no fear .... things soon become trickier and more likely to fry your brain.

So, if you like challenges where, after a while, there are several ways in which to solve a puzzle based upon mechanical craziness, I heartily recommend this game.
