4.0 out of 5 stars Crash Course Neurology (Yogarajah) 9 Jan 2014
By Ross
This book is an excellent resource for those with an interest in / studying Neurology. I have been using this textbook as part of my revision process and it is suitably succinct, providing all the information I need about Neurology in one place. One point to note however, is that this is a neurology book, not a neuroscience book, so if you're after a more science orientated book, perhaps this ( might be more worth looking at. Either way, this textbook is an excellent resource filling in the clinical aspects of diseases which is bound to help gain those extra few marks or at least make it a lot easier to find the information you need to gain them!

The book itself is divided into 3 sections:

"Part I: History, Examinations and Common Investigations" covers some of the fundamental skills someone conducting a neurological examination will need to develop. It covers taking a history, the neurological examination and the sorts of investigations that might need to be carried out.

"Part II: The Patient Presents With" discusses some of the symptoms a neurology patient might present with, such as tinnitus and motor neuron weakness. In convenient boxes next to the text it outlines some of the possible causes / diseases and other relevant information pertaining to the symptoms discussed.

"Part III: Diseases and Disorders" is almost a bit of a reversal of Part II, taking the diseases and discussing the symptoms and the mechanisms (or as much as we know) behind them. It outlines the sorts of investigations, treatments and prognoses of the diseases.

At the end of the book is a section containing self-assessment questions including single best answer, extended-matching and OSCE stations questions.
