After the musical desert, in terms of output, during the late 80's and early 90's John Foxx seems to be trying to make up for lost time in recent years.

This is an enjoyable record. It is less 'Kraftwerk circa '77' than 'The Pleasures of Electricity' and is better for that. The tracks where a harder edge come into play such as the title track and 'Drive' work best with a smattering of cyber-punk almost perceptable.

Where I think the record lapses a tad is in some of the tracks such as 'sex video' and 'she robot' where I got the sense that someone had thrown in a few fillers. Even so, if you enjoy electro-pop/rock with references to the ground breaking electronic early-eighties records that have taken us to where we are now, then you will enjoy this record.

Fans who have bought the last two albums where John has collaborated with Louis will know the two combined talents spark off eachother perfectly. The results are a mixture of bleepy trippy songs and 4:4 club cross-overs, keeping keyboard elements from Metamatic era (arguably his best solo period) in the mix alongside sparse but catchy modern production. His lyrical visions are as alienated as ever, robotics, technological jargon, shadowy forms and bleak scenery - but overall this is probably the most upfront of their albums to date. Drive pulsates along, if a little monotinously at times, but is a great contrast to the more plaintive Cinema. Highlights include Broken Furniture (could be a single, if they chose...), the excellent trippy Sidewalking (Kraftwerk, move aside!), She Robot and the very fierce title track. But there isn't a weak track here, particularly after a few listens. Vocally this set seems a little stronger than Pleasures of Electricity, and musically covers 80s to 2003 in styles - albeit a mechanical electronic 2003! Some of the tracks have less melody, but their sinister momentum keeps you hooked. Some nice 'dark' photo images, as usual, in a deluxe booklet round off this package perfectly. Well worth a listen!

Great stuff, absolutely great stuff! This one is marvellous! Sounds like Metamatic in 2003 with some modern elements but also the ARP Odyssey and the CR78 drummachine do their greatest work. Ultraviolet/Infrared, Sidewalking, Crash & Burn (fans of industrial and EBM will love this one) and Broken Furniture are the best tracks. But none of the tracks is bad. Edgy sounds, odd lyrics and a lot of analogue mayhem make this album one of the best synth-pop releases this year. Great work John and Louis. Hope to see you around Germany in the upcoming months again!
