I can only assume the Amazon reviewer wants a job at Smash-Hits. The customer reviews tell the story. The whole point of this album is a move away from 'hardcore, cutting-edge techno'. There are gorgeous, uplifting strings in here, rattling tom-toms, cynical, crazy lyrics. Eat Static are having fun, exploring their roots a little bit and bringing across styles usually associated with totally different schools. Theres even moments of jazz. Its still electronic, with breakbeats and bass, but this album is mostly about bringing new flavours to techno. Dont forget, Eat Static are basically Ozric Tentacles, and at the end of the day, they are excellent musicians. This album is some of the evidence.
