Product Description

Product Description

A countdown of the 40 worst Members of Parliament in British political history. You could be forgiven for thinking that our current crop of MPs are a bunch of sleaze-ridden, money-grabbing, self-serving individuals with a tendency to be economical with the truth and less than economical with their expenses. And you may well be right, but are they any worse then their predecessors? In Crap MPs, Grosvenor and Hicks have uncovered the 40 worst MPs* in history - a motley collection of rogues, liars, murderers, shaggers, madmen and criminals, many of whom would have been better off behind bars than running the country (actually some of them did end up in prison). The identity of the final 40 will remain a closely guarded secret until publication date but we can reveal that it includes ten currently serving MPs, one Churchill, several drunks and one poor blighter who was simply in the wrong job at the wrong time. *in their opinion

5.0 out of 5 stars Evening Standard, 20.11.09, 28 Nov 2009
CRAP MPs, the eagerly awaited list of the 40 Worst Members of Parliament in History, has now been published by the Friday Project. According to the authors of the neat little hardback guide, Sir Edward Grey, the Foreign Secretary who took us into World War I, is the crappest ever MP, closely followed by Oswald Mosley, the fascist who had Hitler at his wedding. The Rt Hon John Prescott makes it to number 6: "[He] once simply gave up in a BBC interview, asking if he could start again because he had 'made that crap'. 'We're live, Mr Prescott,' came the response." The honour of shortest entry goes to George Galloway at 36. "George Galloway is very litigious," note the book's authors Bendor Grosvenor and Geoffrey Hicks. "But we still think he is a crap MP."

Evening Standard, 20th November 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect revenge on misbehaving MPs, 8 Dec 2009
This is a wonderful book, well researched and genuinely funny. It is easy to read, and well illustrated. Ten serving MPs are included, from Hazel Blears to poor old John Prescott. The list also includes names from as far back as the sixteenth century, so it seems that there will always be MPs who are hopelessly ill suited to the job.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some notable exclusions, 28 Nov 2009
By DJ MacDonald "DJ MacDonald" (Isle of Arran, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An inspiring read in one sense, because the text is blunt and to the point, rather like some notable MPs. The problem with the book is the writers seem to be playing it safe and have left out some incredulous MPs who should undoubtedly be included.

A number of those included, *in my opinion, should not be here. There are far more favourable political plunderers that deserve a place long before the top 40 listed here.

It is a humorous and enjoyable read throughout, however as said on the notes this book was written and published two months later. You get the feeling of a rushed publication, leaving out fruitful research to make this book unmistakeably one that every household needs. As it stands, it won't be a huge hit and if revised for a later date, perhaps the authors can be a lot more honest and daring by way of inclusion of their list.

In my opinion, this has been produced and publicized in the lead up to Christmas, as something Grandad or dad might like in their stocking. Not compelling, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Unfortunately due to lack of fortitude it will disappear as a mediocre short-lived smile.
