More About the Author

I trained as an artist, photographer, and map maker and use these illustrative skills to make easy to understand books about my favourite subject, English buildings. They are aimed at people who might be renovating, tracing the history of or just interested in local buildings, with clearly labelled drawings, diagrams and photos, specifically produced for each book, making them popular with beginners in the subject and students. They are published by Countryside Books who focus on value for money and hence most of my books have listed prices from only £4.99 - £9.99.
There are around twenty of my titles available on Amazon including a series on period houses from Tudor times through to the 1950s, famous buildings like Abbeys, Castles and Country Houses, and other subjects as diverse as narrowboats and gravestones!
I was born in Sussex in 1966, and currently live in Leek, on the edge of the Peak District, with my wife and two children. More details on my website: www.trevoryorke.co.uk

This series of books provides a very good background to the topics. They are copiously illustrated although, to be slightly critical, I would have preferred more photographs as opposed to the drawings. The 80-odd A5-format is very appropriate and there is a useful list of places to visit at the end. I would thoroughly recommend this book to any non-expert hoping to develop their interest in this housing style a little further without delving into great detail. I had recently completed a course on early 20th Century housing and I found the book to be a valuable companion to my lectures.

I've headed my review back to the future as the designs all that time ago 80 or so years are also very modern in concept. My favourite designer is Charles Rennie Mackintosh closely followed by the more botanical designs of William Morris. This book is very informative even though its very small. I make dolls house furniture and find this book helpful in my creations. I may one day even make a C.R. Mackintosh house!
