Manufacturer's Description

Cradle of Rome perfectly marries puzzle elements and resource management mechanics in a highly addictive, easy to pick-up-and-play format for the Nintendo DS casual gamer.

The official Nintendo DS version of the best-selling casual game of 2007, Cradle of Rome perfectly combines addictive puzzle gameplay with an engaging resource management mechanic. Completing each game board provides access to new resources required to construct the city of Rome. The combination of these two elements offers an added layer of complexity which contributes to its continued success in the PC download market.

Product Description

Build the heart of the Ancient Roman Empire and become the Emperor! Welcome to the birth of the Roman Empire where players re-create the legendary city of old using a unique variation of the much-loved Match-3 puzzle mechanic. Gather resources (wood, tools, gold, etc) by matching rows of 3 or more and obtain as many as you can before the time runs out. The more you gather, the faster you can build the city. Start with a lowly saw mill and progress to gain access to historical monuments such as the Arch of Titus, the Temples of Venus and Saturn and eventually the mighty Coliseum. A vast array of bonus tools adds even more incentive to continue the game for as long as possible. Unlocking these tools not only makes clearing the board easier, but also increases the opportunity to gather more resources, gold, and treasure!

  • 100 mind-bending levels
  • 20 historical sites from five eras to build
  • Combine secret bonus tools to achieve your goals faster
  • Multiple gameplay modes for various degrees of difficulty
  • Players set the pace of the game through building, unlocking and "Relax Mode"

Fun:
A great game for making you sit still when you are ill. This is a simple to follow game that should appeal to people of all ages who like myself can't handle the frustration of platform type games. Match three games are more for me. I even found my 86 year old uncle playing it! You can put the game down for a couple of days and restart where you left off without having to repeat your last three of four levels which happens in many computer games. It becomes more difficult with each level and you can easily run out of time if you are not quick but I've played all levels twice now without getting bored. Very similar to Jewel quest which I love as well.

Fun:
Yes it's only jewel matching. Yes the "Rome building" aspect of this doesn't add anything to he experience. Yes you've played it for free on the internet...
but with 100 different puzzles it is still good value and very, very addictive in a "just one more round" sort of way.

One major complaint though, which has been picked up on various other review sites, is that the stylus control is sometimes a bit iffy which is incredibly frustrating towards the later levels when time is of the essence and you find "jewels" flying all around the screen in unintended directions (ooh err missus!)
