5.0 out of 5 stars Superb british horror. , 10 Feb 2006
I agree with Jonathan Ross on this one, Alex Chandon is defiently the future of horror. Hostel was a little bit boring but Cradle of Fear was far from that. Sure, the effects are not great but people have to remmember that this is not a big-budget horror film. Its budget is micro, but it makes up with some of the best ideas in horror history. The Sick Room is awesome and if you've seen the movie you'll know why I think that. Hollywood would never have come up with that idea.

I recomend this film to anyone who enjoys over the top violent horror movies. Cradle has about 22 gory kills and has enough blood to fill a swimming pool. The ideas are wicked and the music is superb. The quality is what really puts people against this film but to be honest, I think the quality is great. It looks a little like camcorder work but you get used to it (unless you're really picky) I'm sure you can forgive it. I wont hate a film for just a few little problems. The movie takes 2 hours exactly but does not get boring at all. Dani Filth is cool and plays his role very well. This feels like one of those films that wont be around for long. I find it hard to believe that the BBFC passed this fully uncut.

If you want a film which is extremly violent, has sick and cool ideas, has great music and is very entertaining to watch then I reccomend Cradle of Fear. If you're sick of Hollywood then Cradle will satisfy your horror hunger.

4.0 out of 5 stars IT'S NOT IF THEY DIE, IT'S HOW..., 14 Nov 2006
By stuart "s.vernon" (MIDDLESBROUGH, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
I watched list last night for the first time since 2002 and I was still awe struck at how well it was filmed - ok the special effects wern't that good and some of the acting was a bit iffy but the 4 stories were all original and well put together. Most of the music was provided by CRADLE OF FILTH but that's because they were in the film (Dani Filth being the main actor), and with me been a huge CRADLE OF FILTH fan that's one of the reasons I wanted this in the first place. Some of the death scenes are original and well thought out - the sick room story been one of them. The special effects are mean't to be by the same people who did HELLRAISER & BLACK HAWK DOWN but I can't see it.

A shocking and brutal anthology which takes you on a merderous ride through four crimson tainted stories of savage revenge. It seems evil has a new name KEMPER (David McEwen) a sickened serial killer and deranged hypnotist now rotting away in an asylum. However a mere padded cell is not enough to contain the evil as Kemper's Satanic servant "The Man" (Dani Filth) executes Kemper's revenge on the outside world.

Mentally scarred detective Neilson (Edmund Dehn) follows the bloody trail in a desperate bid to locate the source of these heinous crimes.

The special features are plentful as well because you have 2 theatrical trilers, chapter index, stills gallery and a behind the scenes making of the film.

With most straight to video films you expect a bad picture and even worst sound but you get none of that with this film. And the film lasts for 2 hours so you get a full 2 hour sick fest of violence, inventive story telling and more violence.

So I will leave this review by saying Enough blood and guts to satisfy the most terminal gorehounds... you have been warned.

Thank you for reading my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come on why havnt you bought it yet, 8 Aug 2002
By Mr. P. McDonald "the-fear" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I approched this film from the point of view of being a Cradle Of Filth fan and I can definately say I was not disappointed.

I originally bought this film from the official site for the film on VHS but as soon as it was listed on this site I pre ordered it.

The film itself is based around a character called Kemper (Played by David McKewan) who was sent to a mental institute (feynham asylum) for his serial murders. To seek revenge on his captors he enlists the help of the man (Played by Dani "Filth" Davey singer for Cradle Of Filth), The man does this all too willingly.

The film is split between several shot story lines which loosely fit together to make the film. Cradle Of Fear was directed by a great bloke called Alex Chandon who's previous work is Bad Karma, Drillbit and Pervirella (which actually starred Mark Lamaar and Jonathon Ross).

I love this film so much I started up the fan site completely dedicated to the film (which now boasts a couple of interviews with Alex and can soon boast an interview with Dani "Filth" Davey and also Lungworm).

The main criticism this film gets is on the special effects (which I personnally think are superb, they were done by a team caled Creature FX who also did Hellraiser and Black Hawk Down) and also the acting ability. What the people who make these comments all seem to forget is the fact that this film is a very low budget film, Alex didn't have millions too spend on actors and effects in fact the majority of the people involved didnt actually get a penny until the film came out and started recouping money that was spent.

Come on, any self respecting Cradle Of Filth fan and for that matter any horror fan should seriously think about buying this. And dont worry if you cant play pal dvd's a US version should be out by the end of the year (this dvd is region free but is in the pal format).

As Alex would say LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH
