Amazon.co.uk Review

The intriguing cross-pollination of rap and kung-fu continues with Cradle 2 the Grave, co-starring high-profile rapper DMX and Hong Kong superstar Jet Li. Master thief Fait (DMX) hits a diamond exchange but comes away with a bag of black gems of mysterious origin. When a crime kingpin steals the gems from Fait, an international arms dealer kidnaps Fait's beloved daughter--and Fait can only get her back with the help of Su (Li), a Taiwanese intelligence agent tracking the gems himself. A summary of the plot doesn't do Cradle 2 the Grave justice; while the basic story elements suggest a dozen generic action flicks, the cast (including Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union and Kelly Hu) has genuine charisma and the movie layers action on top of action to strong effect. All in all, it's a much more engaging thrill ride than you'd expect. --Bret Fetzer

Cradle 2 the grave 8 Feb 2004
Format:DVD
A good martial arts action film from the director of Romeo must Die and Exit Wounds. If you've seen those two, then you'll know what to expect. There's plenty of action from martial arts expert Jet Li (though he does only a few of the action scenes himself) and rap star DMX, who simply cannot act. Those of you who are action junkies will enjoy this film but those who are looking for something else...then this IS NOT FOR YOU! it's not great, particularly the crap plot and some cheesy scenes at the end, but it does contain enough action and car chases, some wicked tunes from the likes of Eminem, Jay-Z and DMX to satisfy Romeo Must Die fans. Plus the georgeous Gabrialle Union (Bad Boys 2) adds some spice to it too.

As for the DVD, there are some interesting features on the making of the film, profiles of the movie's martial Artists and DMX's music video for ''x gon' give it to ya'' but overall, i would advise you to rent this film before you buy caz if you've seen the trailer for this film and was expecting a great action movie then you might be slighly dissapointed.

This film has 'brilliance' written all over it. Jet li and DMX make an ultimate partnership, the storyline isn't confusing and some fab fight scenes take place throughout the film. There is a car chase, a robbery, a break in to a hotel, several murders, guns, martial arts and a great chic. Every action fans dream!!! Wonderful stuff. And a great one to add to your collection. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!!

This is an OK film, but definitely not his best. “Romeo Must Die” and “Kiss of the Dragon” were fast paced and well balanced films, where generally, if someone got hit with a Roundhouse Kick, they went down. (Especially “Kiss of the Dragon”). This film started of well. (Funny how the EMINEM soundtrack had some of the swearing removed. Probably in an attempt at keeping the age rating down). This seemed to me to be primarily a DMX film, with Jet Li as a supporting actor. The humour that was supplied by Tom Arnold was as funny as a “Knock-Knock Joke.” The quad –bike chase, which finished inside a multi-storey car park, felt like the script writer had run out of ideas and wanted to get this bit over ASAP. Sadly this attitude spilt over to the ending, which was unbelievable and disappointing. If you like watching films that won’t tax your mind in any way, then this one should suffice.

Superb film with Jet Li & rapper DMX - good plot, plenty of action & some good acting. Best part of film: last fight scene with Jet Li up against a leather-clad Mark Dacascos. Read more

Very good action film, but a shame it is widescreen ratio 2:40:1 which is too narrow for acceptable viewing on a standard television
