DVD Description

In an austere and remote all-girls boarding school, the most elite clique of girls are the illustrious members of the schools’ diving team. Their glamorous teacher Miss G (Eva Green) is the willing object of their adolescent fantasies, fuelling the girl’s obsession with illicit night time excursions and fantastic scandalous stories. As Team Captain, Di (Juno Temple) is closest of all the girls to Miss G but her position is challenged when a beautiful Spanish girl, Fiamma, arrives at the school, immediately attracting the attentions of Miss with her beauty and maturity. Consumed with jealousy, Di encourages the group to bully their team mate, and Fiamma becomes isolated and vulnerable to the attentions of her teacher. With passion and jealousy running dangerously high, the girls plan a midnight feast, and the night unfolds with dramatic and disastrous consequences.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast/Crew Interview(s), Interactive Menu, Scene Access, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: A teacher who prides herself on being different meets a student who matches her non-conformist nature in this period drama. It's 1934, and Miss G (Eva Green) is a teacher at a private school for girls near the Eastern coastline of England. While most of the teachers at the school are severe and straight-laced women who reinforce its reputation as a repressive environment, Miss G is more youthful and glamorous than her colleagues, and enjoys dropping hints of a free-spirited past to her young charges. Miss G encourages her students to challenge conventional norms of the day, and organizes a diving team at the school that she oversees with great interest. Miss G also sees a danger in the cliques that dominate the school, and she tries to undermine them, much to the annoyance of Di (Juno Temple), who hold a high place in the school's pecking order. But things change for both Miss G and her students when Fiamma (Maria Valverde) enrolls at the school. Fiamma is from Spain and has a strong independent streak; she doesn't look to her peers for approval and insists on doing things her own way, which makes her all the more exotic and appealing to the other students. Fiamma also earns the approval of Miss G, but before long rumors begin to spread that the teacher's interest in her new student is more than academic. CRACKS was the first feature film from director Jordan Scott, whose father is the noted filmmaker Ridley Scott. ...Cracks

The Prime of Miss G 28 Jan 2010
By Keris Nine TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The familiar story of the inspirational teacher is given a deliciously sinister twist in this adaptation of the Sheila Kohler's novel by Jordan Scott. Set in a boarding school in the 1930s, a group of schoolgirls under the thrall of daring glamorous diving instructor Miss G is shook up by the arrival of a talented and exotic new girl. Eva Green at first comes across as a little mannered and not totally convincing, but her Joan Crawford impersonation ends up being appropriate and suited to her character and she carries it off well. The story perhaps doesn't delve as deeply into the strange alien world of the female adolescent mindset as some other recent foreign films on the subject (Innocence, Water Lilies), following instead a mostly conventional line on bullying and female power games - but even that gives rise to events that are truly shocking and all too believable. Beautifully photographed - you'd expect that at least from the daughter of Ridley - with excellent, natural performances from the girls, Cracks is a strong debut from Jordan Scott.

Crackles with tension 20 April 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Saw this film after seeing it reviewed in a magazine. From the first few moments till right to the end the tension between teacher and students was electric, but they could have explored the budding crush the teacher had for the spanish girl a little more. Eva Green is once again captivating and beautiful, a lush film for a rainy afternoon with a mug of chocolate. Delicious!!

delicately beautiful 27 April 2010
Format:DVD
A fantastic first film from Ms Scott and a fabulous performance from all the main characters, but especially Eva Green. This is a gentle and intelligent film that explores the dark side of love and infatuation. Ms Scott treats the story with delicacy and subtley that draw the viewer into the isolated world enhabitted by the characters. The cinematorgraphy is just lovely. This is definately not a film for people who want action and a fast pace, but if you want an inteligent film that explores human emotion and relationships and will stay with you long afterwards, then I can totaly recomend it.

You don't get the time back . . .
This film is slow, the plot is dull and adds nothing to your life - just depressing and bizzare. It's not even a cautionary tale- absolutely no positives. Read more

Poor imitation of a great story
Despite the high production value of this film and despite the great cast in it; this film was really quite poor.

Nice film but a bit slow
I quite enjoyed this film but found the storyline a bit slow. Found time to get a cup of tea as it didn't really keep my attention throughout. Not too bad though.

Desire, jealousy and tragedy
If most films on the subject are to be believed, boarding schools are horrible places with old and strict yet funnily absent teachers. Read more
