Book Description

28 Mar 2011
What would you do to save the star of your dreams? Dr. Matt Sinclair has everything a handsome young doctor would want-a thriving practice in the beautiful English countryside, the respect of his peers and friends, and a bank account that makes him more than financially comfortable. Just one thing is spoiling his idyllic life-a secret, unhealthy infatuation for a pop star from which he knows he must free himself. But fate is a strange thing.... Overnight, the golden girl whom everyone loved, everyone wanted a piece of, became devalued currency. Graphic details as to how the body had been discovered in her bedroom, and in what condition, were leaked, and the tabloids sucked it all up in the story-making machine, as more and more sensational headlines were spawned. John Behardien is a family physician in Manchester, England, who began writing short stories five years ago. He credits his foray into novel writing to his love of the English language and his "pursuit of self-improvement, accepting the writer's challenge for clear, unambiguous expression." The inspiration for Crack in the Code came from his fascination with those who do the right thing when it would be so much easier for them to choose to act selfishly. His next work of fiction centers on the story of a young doctor who is intent on saving a patient on the verge of suicide, and the dangerous path on which he soon finds himself. 4.0 out of 5 stars Crack in the Code 20 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I am new to writing reviews but I was given this book to read on holiday. I was just looking for an easy holiday read and this was certainly that but also quite a bit more. The plot was actually very tricky with credible twists and quite well described characters. This book is a good read and it gave me a little bit of everything. It has romance, suspense and a believable storyline with a well pulled together ending.

A good 4 stars, well worth a read!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars modern novel, timeless values. 14 May 2011
Format:Paperback
Set within the alluring worlds of medicine and high octane celebrity, this is the romantic modern novel you would even let your daughters read.
The main character, though immersed in the froth of pleasurable materialism, shows how a strong moral compass can develop over time. Eventually, nothing in his life is taken for granted and there are hints of the introspective qualities of an Ian McEwan type character.
Dark undertows in the plot pull the reader inexorably towards the story's exciting climax and an unpredictable final outcome. Definately the first novel of an author to watch out for!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great start ! 10 May 2011
Format:Paperback
This is the first book by GP John Behardien which I'd describe as a romantic thriller. The hero is a village GP who has just about everything - looks , money , job, car, house - but he harbours a slightly sinister secret - his obsession with a pop star. Even the advice of his best mate , a psychologist , fails to deter him from cashing in his investments and arranging a paid-for date with said pop-tottie. Its a lot more complicated than her just falling for him too, but when her career suffers a downturn events conspire to bring them together. In addition to the mild-mannered , love-struck hero the book is full of other "stalkers" and obsessions are the basis of the plot; I particularly loved the predatory female doc who tries to lure the hero away to her patch! It's all set around the North West with references to lots of places that Manchester , Salford and Cheshire folk will recognise , including the cover. This book is an enjoyable page-turner and a great first book; well done !
