I loved this book when I was a kid and sought out another copy for lending. I think it should be re-published. It is an intelligent, beautiful fantasy for kids and it captures a point in history with rich, strange images and lovely small episodes in the life of the magical Cinque-Ports village in south-west England. Reading it as an adult is just as pleasurable as reading it was when I was young. It doesn't underestimate its readers. I'd love to know what happened to the author. Did she ever publish again? When I became a publisher, one of our books was a similar fantasy chapter book called "The Curious Adventures of India Sophia" by Angela Stewart, which has the same wonderful qualities.
