Product Description

Gay Times

Forget Bret Easton Ellis, Poppy Z Brite, and Dennis Cooper. That's kid's stuff. If you want something truly repellent, try this.

Kerrang!

The word is out that Cows is every bit as dark and deranged as Iain Bank's classic 'The Wasp Factory'. It's not: it's even more so. Possibly the most visceral novel ever written.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Unpleasant But Strangely Compelling...., 17 Aug 2006
By R. Mullaney (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Cows is probably the most deranged and warped novel you will ever read. It is thoroughly revolting on every level from the language and violence to the beastiality, sexual violence and eating of faeces. That said, it is also a highly original and unforgettable work by quite possibly the most disturbed author on Earth. It was very difficult for me to put Cows down after I started reading it even though I got absolutely no joy whatsoever from what I read. It isn't a book you can enjoy but it is utterly compelling and I kept wanting to read on just to see how much more disgusting it would get.

A friend of mine lent me this book along with Stokoes other book, the excellent High Life. Although similarly vile in places it is a much more satisfying read than Cows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warped but good, 21 Oct 2005
At first look into this book, it is most vile from beginning to end. The twisting of words make you imagine the story line setting an image into your mind of one unbelievable but totally realistic view. This book is not for the faint hearted. Once I had read it, I couldn't put it down, then I had to read it again and again and again. I have been looking for this for a while and now I have finally found it I shall be purchasing it again. This is one of those books which make you stop, re-read and then feel sick. Amazing, truelly amazing. Sick and twisted, this is a book for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destined to become a classic, 30 May 2002
Cows is a compelling, unflinching account of one man's journey into the dark heart of mankind; exposing dark humanity and pathos.

Escaping the unbearable home live to the hellish reality of the slaughterhouse, events unfold through increasingly surreal realisations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Repulsive, compelling, unforgettable
Up there with the very best in contemporary fiction, Cows is instantly grotesque and shocking. One of the darkest novels you can hope to read, this bizarre tale is by turns... Read more
