Echoing many of the other reviews I have found this to be far the best MP3 player I've owned. The sound quality is superb and the range of EQ adjustments makes it streets ahead of other brands at any price. I have not tried the supplied ear-buds - my sennheisers sound great. Personally I like the very minimalist lightweight design a lot; easy to slip in your pocket slim and unobtrusive. I even like the diagonal touch screen controls - it is actually more comfortable to scroll on a diagonal if holding the player in one hand and using the thumb of that same hand. About my only quibble was the incredible sensitivity of the touch screen - but in the settings menu you can adjust that too! I do put it on 'hold' when playing because it is still a bit of hair-trigger.

Regarding the "is it loud enough" vs. "its too quiet" debate. The key as mentioned on forums elsewhere is to select NON EUROPEAN as the region when first taking it out of the box. EU regulations impose a limiter. Its OK to select European for the radio. If - as I did - you select European and feel it is a bit too quiet no problem. Connect to your PC using the supplied USB/charging cable - open My computer and click on the iAUDIO9 icon; double click on the system folder; delete the file named PARAM. This is the file that logs the parameters when you first setup. Disconnect player and turn back on - all the music files will still be there - and go through the set up of location etc again just DON'T select European! Also, don't be fooled by the fact that the volume range still shows as 1 - 40; that is all it is a range not an absolute measure of loudness. "New" 40 is considerably louder than "Old" 40.

I think this is a stunning piece of kit which on music playback alone is significantly superior to various I-pods/phone at twice the price. My only regret is that I didn't splash oput an extra twenty quid to double the capacity. I have not tried the videos yet - not my thing. Music downloading laughably simple - drag and drop or just "send to" from tools like media monkey.

I've used i-pods and creatives before this, but they just weren't loud enough. This little player lets you adjust every level to get that `perfect sound' - it also works with any file type - no need for itunes.

Once you get used to the file structure it is easy - similar to the structure of a PC. The battery lasts a while and because of its size it tucks away nicely in your inside pocket.

The screen is sharp, but small; this will play video but it is designed for music.

This is a real music lover's MP3; an understated design compared to apple, but far superior sound.

The best thing about this player - you can adjust the settings to make it LOUD!

Great sound quality 10 Dec 2010
By jofis
I took some time to trawl through audiophile forums to find the best player for sound quality, which is all I really care about. Cowon seemed to come up top in this price range. I am not disappointed, sound quality is great, far better than ipod, and there are surprisingly precise controls for EQs, although the controls are a little fiddly. And it's loud! I haven't bothered with the included headphones, they're always rubbish, I use my own Octone Groovebuds which are also good value.
Thoroughly recommended.
