Having read both 'the salesman' and 'desperados' I picked up this book to read whilst on holiday. I expected maybe to read a bit of it, maybe even half. I ended up finishing it in 2 days!
The story is brilliant, sad, funny, moving and a whole lot of other emotions rolled up into a ball. Eddie Virago is an idiot, and thoroughly dislikable and yet you just cant help reading on. Compelling stuff. Joseph O'Connor is probably my fave writer ever, and I'd recomend any of his books, but especially this one.
My only complaint is that it was too short!! It wound the story up very quickly at the end. This however is my opinion and certainly doesn't deminish the greatness of this book ;)

Well written and enjoyable. Will appeal to the generation of Irish people that left Ireland to live in London during the eighties. I thought the beginning of the book was better than the end. Maybe the author got tired.

i orderded this book for my husband so i can't review the story just yet, what i can say is the condition of the book was great and it came on time i had no bother with the seller.
