Pantera's debut (ignoring semantic arguments about the four albums that the band released earlier on the metal magic label) studio album Cowboys From Hell was released in 1990 and has since become a platinum-selling classic album, almost uncontested in its status and practically universally acclaimed.
Pantera were one of the most important band's in the history of metal and were a rallying point for fans during the 1990s when a lot of metal bands and fans came under fire in the media, justly and unjustly alike.
Compared to later Pantera albums, this may seem a little different; the music is more (though not completely) rooted in 1980s Thrash and Heavy Metal than the albums which would follow and the style of vocals are often quite different, including several sections of extreme high pitched falsetto vocals in the style of Judas Priest.
Cowboys From Hell contains several of the bands best known and much loved tracks, such as the semi-epic 'Cemetery Gates,' the title track 'Cowboys from Hell,' and 'Domination,' but as a whole, the record is generally a strong release and isn't just a few hits and a lot of filler.
This 20th Aniversary Deluxe Edition includes the previously unreleased studio track 'The Will To Survive,' (discounted as it shared some riffs with other Pantera songs of the era) and demos of almost all the songs; as well as the tracks from the rare five-track 1994 Live-EP "Alive And Hostile" and the seven-track live show from Foundations Forum in 1990, both of which feature Cowboys' era track listings.
With all the extras, as well the deluxe packaging and sound quality this is a superb product that I would highly recommend to prospective buyers. If you want to get a hold of Cowboys From Hell and have the money, this is certainly worth getting a hold of. If you are new to Pantera however, don't only buy this; get all of their other albums too.
